In an idea World yeah. I'm dubious he's anything like Prem standard though. Although other posters on this board will be better placed to comment. The U-21's on the whole have been an unsightly rabble this season.
Miquel has had a mixed time at Leicester (I know he was injured for a period). I also have huge doubts about his pace and even more so his positional-sense. Still, he's young and you'd assume/hope his game will improve. But for him to be a Prem player (IMO) he'll need to do so rapidly.

Ha!
Love Jenks! But I just don't think he's at a level to be first choice at a club expected to (hopefully) challenge for honours. Amazing athlete, always gives his all etc... But positionally he worries me and he's got a horrible knack of going to pieces if & when he makes a mistake. Fullback is a really important position for Arsenal, I'm of the mind that Jenks is not yet ready ability-wise or mentally tough enough (yet) to handle that pressure.
There's talk of a loan move to Newcastle (if they sell Debuchy) and for him, that'd be a brilliant gauge of just how good he is.
Wenger has publicly stated he wants Sagna and Fabianski to stay, yet, as far as I'm aware, has said nothing about Vermaelen.
Which leads me to wonder whether:
a) he has no intention of letting the Belgian leave, (Wenger has 'reportedly' told Podolski no players will leave this summer without his consent)
b) he thinks we'd still get decent money for him and already has a replacement in mind
c) he thinks for the money we'd get for Vermaelen a suitable replacement would be too hard to find, especially with all the other business he's looking to do this summer, and so will let him run down his contract, see how things progress over the course of the season and, if things are going well, hope he can convince him to sign an extension.
Either that, or something far more mundane...
It will be in interest of both Arsenal and player that Vermalen leaves. He is not the same player what he was 3 seasons ago. He is also injury prone these days, better sale him and get decent back option like Caulker. Caulker will be happy I guess to join us, he has got decent PL experience too + some Europa experience.
Frankly, I think neither are irreplacable. Verm is prone to dips in form and Sagna has been in decline last couple of years (still decent of course).
What worries me more is that they'll leave be replaced with prospects and our two signings will be "enough" with not a striker in sight.

Any signing is a gamble, yaddayadda...
Sagna's replacement HAS to be decent, pure & simple.
Verm is a different kettle of fish. But the reality is ANY injury to Merts or Kos means whoever replaces them will have to be at a decent level.
The days of signing players who go under the radar yet with a bit of polishing end up becoming 'stars' are not so bountiful now, are they (not that it doesn't happen). That as always a speciality of Wenger's, finding a rough diamond and polishing them up. The game's moved on and scouting networks of the top clubs have not just caught up with Arsenal, but very likely eclipsed them.
Hence (imo) the club are in a position where they HAVE TO bite the bullet and pay (at least) the 'going rate', something the club traditionally have an allergy to.

True, however you can soften the blow by buying players in advance. If Sagna's contract had a year left and he wasn't agreeing to a new one then perhaps last summer you're best buying a replacement who can get up to PL standard over a season with Sagna still here, instead of pinning all our hopes on him resigning or being able to get a ready-made up-to-standard replacement that's not our typical approach.

Yup.
I know it's all words and spin. But Wenger's interview and his unofficial 'season review' the other day left me feeling bittersweet. I though he was very honest and spoke well. Didn't sound delusional at all (as some have suggested), he actually came across very well and his thoughts going forward sounded progressive & encouraging... Until he started talking about future transfers!
He's cagey at the best of times when pressed on such matters (which is understandable). What grated at me was there was an air of excuse-making prior to the window even opening. The same old chestnuts came out and the World Cup being a stumbling block (to signing players) was on the menu...
I hope the club don't balls this up over the summer.
You see having two experienced defenders leaving plus a top notch no 2 goal keeper, we will have to buy 3 players alone to cover. Then a couple more at least in other areas. 5 players is too much for Wenger IMO. I just hope that we aren't short in areas again because this cycle will never ever end.
Piszczek as Sagna's replacement. Yes please
Just to really get silly.
Several sources in Germany are claiming that Javi Martinez (may well be bulls h ! t) is unhappy at Bayern, dislikes playing out of position etc. Bayern might be tempted to sell, but only in excess of £30/35 million.
He's not overly quick, but he's one of the brightest readers of the game (playing a deep midfield role) going imo.
IF (big IF) he were available, even at 35 million big ones he'd be an absolute dream signing?
Well I think he's up there with the best defensive midfielders in the game. If you want the best you have to pay top dollar and I think we really should go for him. May mean no Cesc but with the money in the bank I expect big signings. Realistically ain't happening.

Im sure i saw his keep up with Bale in last weeks game. cant be that slow if he can do that.
Schneiderlin tops the Premier League rankings for both interceptions (139) & tackles (146) apparently, at a glance anyway...

It's always been assumed, rightly or wrongly that IF he has a weakness, it's his pace, but it's certainly never held him back.
I don't think he's lightning slow or anything so dramatic, probably more so that he's such a great all-round player, but he's not lightning quick and that (maybe) gets highlighted..?
For me he's a pearl of a player, has a bit of everything.
Not sure if it's been mentioned already, but the bonus about potentially signing Aurier is his versatility across the back four - can fill in at CB or LB if needed
The only concern I have about him is the fact he'll be off to the ACON during the second, and more crucial, part of the season
