Cross Bender Off Your Shortlist

Why on earth would we want bender, schneiderlin is better and already has PL experience, we need to get him in asap

posted on 7/5/14

ultimately he has come out and admitted he's not ready for the step up to Arsenal.

Find that VERY odd!

I've heard that Leverkusen were initially resigned to losing the lad. But financially they're in a decent position and realise that replacing the likes of Bender will prove VERY tricky, hence they're looking to build, not sell.

I'd love him at Arsenal, but by the looks of things, he's not a realistic option (now).

The only one who I want to leave is the OP.

Don't quite see where you get the 'step up' part. Bender said he was happy where he was but not ready to make a change right now.
With a name like Lars Bender, we MUST have him at Arsenal. It is surely destiny!

I find the words 'Cross Bender' being next to each other amusing for some reason

Well there's still the other Bender.

Schneiderlin would be my first choice now

Others we could go for Gonalons, Casemiro

Javi Martinez would be worth a try

If im honest as much as we all want a DM I can see Wenger ignoring it and sticking with what we have. With Sagna looking to be on his way out he will make the RB position priority along with another forward. Hope I'm wrong though

if we want Bender we can get him, simple as we had a bid of 15m turned down 20m would do it. Leverkusen are a million miles from bayern atm & i dont see them challenging for the title. Also we have Germans in our squad who could convince him otherwise, i think he's comments are just being respectful to his current club.

I don't think Schneiderlin is a good enough option. He's a good payer, but he to often passes backwards and sideways. My dads a big Southampton fan, he always prefers the team when he's not playing, because he's less direct and slows their play down a bit.
I don't think he'll be much better than arteta. Decent player, but no improvement of what we have.

More athletic, better in the air and better DM than Arteta though. We don't need an overhyped name, just a player who would be good for the DM role.

Should have signed Gustavo when he was available for just £15Million.

Just read that Schneiderlin tops the Premier League rankings for both interceptions (139) & tackles (146), for what that's worth.

Schneiderlin is an improvement on arteta, better in almost every department bar set-pieces

To be brutally honest, unless you've had a chance to watch a player like Schneiderlin up close ovr a fair few games, it's VERY difficult to appreciate just how good (or not) they really are.

True enough, stats are not the 'be all & end all' of assessing a player, but a guy playing a specific role (anchoring a midfield) interceptions/tackles etc is always a decent start in making a judgement.

I like him. But I'm reluctant to stick my neck out and sing his praises with regards to Arsenal as I've not seen as much of him up close as I'd like. Looks good at face value though.
