Very little in it at all.

Would love to see a stats comparison with Ronaldo in La Liga this season.

I'd be shocked if Adnan got anywhere close to Ronaldo's level. Ronaldo is a physical specimen. A one off.

Adnan could become a regular 15-20 goal a season player though, and i think his eye for a pass is better than Ronaldo's.

Not sure what you could gain from it Dazza.

Another consideration in Adnan's favour though... Ronaldo made his debut season in a team that contained players like Keane, Giggs, Scholes and van Nistelrooy operating at or close to their peaks.

Just interesting is all.

I'd never have thought, given what he did in his first season, that ten years later he'd be posting the figures he has.

Of course not. The rate at which Ronaldo improved (and is still improving) season after season was just ridiculous. I've never seen anything like it.

Adnan can be a world class player in his own right though, no doubt.

Ronaldo was playing in a better team, this is proof Adnan > Cristiano

Tu Meke, spot on.

Bale always gets injured, though.

Bale has the physique but not quite the inherent, innate skill the Ronaldo possessed when he first broke onto the scene.

If anything, I preferred watching Ronaldo for us than at Madrid, as he's cut down on his tricks and taking people on as much. He's become a goal scoring machine at the slight expense of the excitement of his game.

The same could be said of Rooney to a lesser extent, although i'd argue his goal scoring feats don't quite adequately compensate for the dwindling of the unpredictability and explosiveness of Rooney in his Everton and early United days.

BK, yeah I agree.

To sort of further my point....

I think when you look at Rooney's game now, it's almost unrecognisable to the Rooney that lit up Euro 2004 and the one who made *that* debut against Fenerbache.

With Ronaldo, he's not unrecognisable from the player that wowed us vs Bolton, but there's been a quite deliberate refinement and tailoring of his game to the player we see now.

Do you reckon Ronaldo stats would've been similar had he stayed in the prem?

posted on 9/5/14

He'd be scoring 30-40 a season regularly permitting injury.

Adnan needs more game time now. Can't stop his progress.

-------------------------

Similar but slightly less. I don't know how true this is but i remember hearing a while ago - we're talking a few years - that the goals per game ratio in Spain was higher than in England, suggesting that Spanish football is a little weaker defensively. so that could be a factor to consider.

posted on 9/5/14

If anyone knows about the comparative goals to games ratio for the leagues in Europe that would be interesting to see in general and to inform/further the discussion.

Who's our resident stats man these days?

posted on 9/5/14

Seeing Luis Suarez this year, I actually think Ronaldo would've scored 50 goals in all competitions every season in the past 5-8 years had he been in the prem still.

I'll be very surprised if Adnan reaches anywhere near CR7's level. Undoubtedly a highly talented guy, but Ronaldo level, I doubt. Thankfully there is plenty of time to prove me wrong.
