Apparently, my family are expected to get $2900 from the US government in a few weeks as part of the President's stimulus package.

My understanding is that its repayable correct? Is taken in to account with regards your tax return etc.

Jesus. Been pushing for the past couple of days to get the Scottish couple who have been working for me for a couple weeks to go home, now. It’s like talking to a brick wall, trying to get them to understand the reality of the situation. They’re on a working holiday visa in nz right now, we have seen orders coming into the business die in the past week, and can’t carry them beyond the end of this week. They’re aware of this but seem set on just waiting until things go back to normal - however they don’t seem willing to understand that the borders going to be closed until there’s a vaccine which is at least a year away. Which means no tourism, which is one of NZs largest industry’s. So now you have an entire sector more or less decimated long term and a bunch of people unemployed looking for work.

So where are they going to get work? Freedom of movement is also limited and will continue to be for months, and then their visa will expire in October or something and how the fack are they then expecting to get home? I have been pushing them to try to get home, found the site they should register with the royal high commission so the uk government know they’re here and their situation, even found facking commercial flights still running tomorrow to head back to London for about 700 pounds which honestly is pretty great all things considered. Offered to push their pay through early so they had the money to buy the tickets and get home now.

Did they listen? Did they fack. They’re going to be stuck in a caravan in NZ with no job, no money and no system to support them until their visa runs out, and then need to try to figure a way home anyway. Exasperating.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Surely NZ is now their home, if that's where they are now living and working?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Working holiday scheme. So you travel and work for a year as a way to see more of the country.

The issue is the long term effects of the lockdown and the border closing, they’re not going to be able to do much of anything here and need to head home earlier than they would like to, as the British government have been calling on all Brits to do so for the past few weeks

Nope.

Free money deposited directly into your bank account. Not taxable.

Buying the election, some might say.

Think it's partly or fully repayable for people warning above 75,000.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No it just gets reduced as your earnings move above 75k to eventually be zero given to folks 99k and above.

For a married couple it’s $2400 if you earn less than 150k plus $500 per child.

Exactly. Same with this furlough stuff.

I dread to see the tax increases in October to pay the social welfare bill over here from the current situation

posted on 1/4/20

It should fall on companies here first, they have had a 26 billion a year tax break since the tories took power.

Followed by taking out the 98bn a year corporate welfare fund, we can have it sorted in three or 4 years.

Won't happen of course.. The poorest in society will bear the brunt

Those who have kept the country going during these uncertain times will be this hit the hardest.

“Thanks for keeping us alive and well fed during this pandemic, oh by the way here’s your huge tax rise”!

Yep, always the way here, personally feel we need to see ur way out of this in the same way we did post ww2.

Socialism and we should be realigning to the Beveridge report.

My Facebook feed is clogged up with people complaining about how much they are getting on universal credit or SSP, yet will vote tory at every election to destroy that safety net.

I think we should scrap Easter this year in order to save Easter next year, the eggs already in the stores should be taken off the shelves (as they are tainted) and destroyed in order to safeguard the chocolate eggs that are yet to be made for next year

Why ruin next years Easter because a few Maltezer eggs need to be sold this year,it doesnt make sense

Sorry to be pedantic and childish lads but that seems to be the same tired argument on the Tottenham board every day
----------------------------------------------------------------------
they are desperate
