Salah playing wide wasn't working. Playing him centrally was the solution. Both chance situations today came from the centre area.
Playing a more disciplined right hand side is the way forward. I have always said Gomez right back and Konate rcb will give us the defensive stability. Play Trent only as a rcm.
Nunez did almost everything right but only his decision let him down. He got all the tools to succeed. Salah, Firmino and Nunez are our only attacking options at this moment.
That was fun.
I was hoping Pep dropped a clanger against us and he definitely did yesterday...but their post match interviews was the best thing about yesterday
It was a filter...but soooo good

Best I’ve seen Milner play for like a year, even Gomez was pinging balls.
There was a fluidity to our play and Salah has really turned a corner.
Also VVD was superb and almost everyone.
Jotas final product is starting to concern me however
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Wasn't Thiago's best game IMO.
I'm happy with Jota. He's not been playing a lot of minutes and could be off the pace a little. Could have scored on another day and if Salah had played him in instead of shooting it was gonna be a tap in. He made himself available throughout the game and didn't hide.

Nunez was incredibly frustrating today, he was so involved when he came on, and a real handful but his end product is absolute garbage.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Aside from the obvious 3 v 1, thought he was excellent personally.
Ran them ragged, gave us an outlet, and had some good moments. The pass to Trent was 100% the right call, he just slightly overhit it.
He's getting better every game in my opinion.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly what I’m seeing and saw.
He’s not the finished article, he can be quite naive, however from how his first touch was the first few games and how he’s moving now is a huge improvement.
I believe once he’s sorted the composure issue out then he’ll be one hell of a player.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yep, I’ve said all along his movement and positioning is exceptional, he pulls defenders all over the place and creates panic. Minutes on the pitch will sort the rest out hopefully.
Problem is, many fans see the price tag and expect a ready made world class player. It’s not his fault the market is the way it is, I doubt he thinks of himself as an 80m player yet.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He's too eager to score. With the huge transfer fee, internet videos of him messing up, comparisons with Haaland it's making him not think things through IMO.
Klopp will settle him down.
I think Nunez should’ve just slipped it to Carvalho!
Nunez will be fine. Klopp needs to have a chat with him and tell him to relax. His movement and running behind is world class. We have a good balance there with Jota and Nunez who make runs off the ball and Firmino and Diaz who want the ball into feet whilst Salah can do both.
Our double pivot of Thiago, Fabinho and Salah and Firmino was a good tactic to deny City access to play through the middle.
Pep had anticipated the tactical change we made. The moment he saw Salah from the middle he moved Cancelo from the left hand side to the right hand side and pushed him very high to press Robertson. Haaland can score goals but he isn't a hardworking player like Jesus who can press relentless and force mistakes.
This City team is more vulnerable without Walker.

Yeah, that would have been the right pass IMO.
I still don't have too many concerns about Nunez, I think he'll get there. The movement is good, the physical attributes are there. I don't think he'll ever be a clinical striker but you don't need to be, Salah misses a lot of chances, always has done, but his movement and ability means he'll always get more opportunities. As soon as he calms down and starts making smart decisions, the goals (and assists) will flow.
I really enjoyed the game. I expected nothing from it and feared we’d be put in our place a bit. Even at 0-0 I would have been not too disappointed with a 1-0 loss as the performance was so promising.
Will mean little though unless we kick on from here with at least another 12 points before the WC break.
I really have to ask whether our preparation for this season was the same as every other season where we sorta reach physical peak condition around December...knowing full well there was a world cup coming up because we are looking much sharper these past couple games
We defo played deeper yesterday which was why Foden had no room behind Milner unlike last season. Klopp finally changing tactics. The players were very focused and the defense went safety first at times against a top opposition.
Will be interesting to see how we play against West Ham who will sit deep. Onus will be back to us meaning it will be back to a high line.
Yeah been better last few games for sure, so it's frustrating we couldn't hold on for the win v Brighton and draw v Arsenal as things would be looking quite rosy had those happened.
5 league games before the break now:
West Ham H
Notts A
Leeds H
Spurs A
Southampton H
Need 12 points minimum really.
Spurs will park the bus for sure...so here's hoping the defence and midfield finds their counter pressing rhythm again.
Really hope we have some confidence now and kick on from here.
We're still ravaged by injuries though...
Klopp bringing Trent into midfield rather than at right back which was telling. Hopefully that means a positional change.
issue is TAA had a lot of room and good angles to punish teams, less likely to get that in mf unless he picks up similar positions which will mean hes out of position when we lose and ball and we all know hes often slow to react and will have similar problems to what hes slated for at RB ?

I don't know how people don't see this as a problem and just automatically assume that because a more defensive RB is behind him, that RB is going to stay behind every minute of the game.
Which Klopp team do they watch lol
Also the protection from the midfield now has been far greater than to what we were trying when Trent was in the side

In a 4 2 4 he will be wide right I assume. Harvey was able to drift in that position. Especially against Rangers.
Trent is an 8 in my eyes, been saying it for years.
Gerrard used to pull right in possession to whip in that angled arced ball and I see no reason why Trent cannot do the same.
Gerrard was all action though. Left everything on the pitch 98% of the time.
Granted the game has changed since then and there's no doubt we can create a system that allows Trent to pick up the same positions that he currently picks up from an attacking perspective...but then we've seen with Elliott what happens when you can't perform your defensive duties to the same level in midfield as well.
You can't have off-games in midfield...ask Keita, Shaq and Elliott
What a result boys! So glad to see Salah back to form
Did Sky show what happened after Bernardo tried to bring down Salah? Looks like he backs towards him and either kicks-out or tries to elbow Salah, but I've only seen grainy footage on Twitter.
If the ref missed it, technically this can be reviewed after the game right? It won't be, just curious
Trent on the right side of a midfield three would be great, I'd actually prefer we signed a quality right back than trying for Bellingham with Trent taking that position.
