Glad Messi won it over Haaland.
As good as he is, these awards have fast turned into whoever scores the most goals which renders the whole thing a bit pointless.
same, hope he never wins it, theres better footballers about
Messi is still the best player in the world tbh

Wasn't even thinking about the goals, more the instant impact to help City won a trophy they have been comically allergic to in the past to cap off a treble. Again it wasn't even close.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Perhaps, but as Taki says, he didn't score after the quarter finals and can't remember him doing anything of note in the final.
Rodri probably has a better claim on that front as he was superb in every single game.
Rodri is certainly top 5 in the world
Messi's story was just too good to ignore this year. A man whose only CV blemish has been the lack of international glory plays a central role in Argentina finally winning the WC a year after winning the Copa America.
And the fact that it happens when, let's be honest, he's passed his best almost makes it more of a story - a last hurrah for one of the greats of the game.
If Mbappe gets his RM move in the summer then I can see him hoovering up a few of these awards over the next 5 years.

I'd say Gundogan had the biggest effect i fividually for City in both the league and CL at the business end of the season.

Not with Bellingham around he won’t.
Bellingham has had a good 10 or 11 games but Mbappe has been doing it years.
He'll absolutely smash it at Madrid and likely with France too, plus Bellingham would probably be moved back a bit to accommodate Killian, unless they play the latter on the right.
Saying that, there's increasingly no reason why Bellingham can't pick up an international trophy too so should be a good battle.

We'll see. Bellingham is a wonderful talent no question but I think people overlook Mbappe a bit because he plays for PSG who have consistently failed in the CL and he's come across as a bit of a d*ck in the contract situation.
His scoring rate at club and international level is pretty much Messi/Ronaldo'esk. At a more fashionable/recognised club, the plaudits will flow imo.

He does fack all but score a lot of goals tbh. Goals are important but there's more to football than that. He's really not good at anything else and there's nothing exciting about his style. He's boring and bland IMO. Give me the electric Mbappe over him any day of the week, even if he scores less goals. Mbappe is like a Henry while Haaland is like Ruud Van Nistelrooy. Enough said.
Haaland gets a fair few assists too. I think people are being a bit dilly tbh, he's a quality footballer, who is 23 and all round game is improving.
Thiago and Bajcectic still out injured.
Thiago providing mentorship to Bajcetic on the treatement table.
The way Pep spoke it sounds like they don't even know when Thiago will be back.
Not expecting him to play until 2024 by the sounds of it.
