If it’s one player, or perhaps all ageing players then I might agree with you.

Saying we would be unable to sign contracts with Trent and Konaté ahead of their final year though seems a bit silly.

We’ve clearly got a bit of an issue with contracts and I’d suggest a big reason is the turnover at the top level of the club.

But we seem to have a fixed team there now, so we really should at least be wrapping up Konate. They are running the club like a baseball club not a football club and that’s what annoys me.

The only contracts we have signed since the last contract splurge has been the youth contracts of Jones, Bradley and Quansah. Those were cheap easy to make.

Looks like we have decided that we don't want to offer competitive contracts and would rather let them go and start again.

I’m not so sure I’d be comfortable with Salah having three years though.
======
Holy crap! Term wants Salah gone.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Obviously, you can see I’m saying the club clearly have a decision to make on the direction they want to take our attacking play. And I do think three years is too much for Salah. The last two seasons there’s been a clear drop off at the business part of the season, both from Salah and the team, and that needs addressing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I get your point but on this thread you can't say anything about Salah except praise, worship and ululation. If you do then you hate him and want him sold.

I'm sure the same people complaining about the approach of the club to contracts were the same ones moaning about us being stuck with deadwood or injured players over the last few years. Can't have it both ways

———————-
I don’t think that’s what I’ve said though. Besides, contracts can only be signed if a player wants to sign them. Unless you have information that no one else has access to, then you’re just making assumptions that the club are to blame. Maybe Trent stated that he wanted to wait until his final year, and you’ll probably say we should have sold him. But maybe the club decided there was more value in keeping a player who makes so many on field contributions and hope that he signs. What are the club supposed to do if Trent will only leave for Madrid and Madrid make derisory offers? Stick him in the reserves?

I think certain posters refuse to entertain the idea that it could be the players and the agents that create a lot of the issues, because it’s easier for them to blame the club, and come out with nonsense such as the club are disrespecting our legends. I’m not saying that is the issue here but it’s not something I’m dismissing.

Lame argument as Ali, Gomez, Trent, Konate, Jota have all had injuries but luckily the reliable ones have stayed reliable. Unfortunately playing all those games with no rotation has cost us in other competitions.

You say it’s a lame argument, yet then say it’s lucky that certain players have stayed fit to cover for the unreliable ones. That’s very odd logic.

Using Thiago and Keita’s injury problems as a new angle to justify the current contract situation is certainly a new angle. Desperate one in my opinion, but each to their own I guess.

No more desperate than declaring every press story from the club journo’s as PR though, is it?

Everything the journos say is leaked by the club to control our opinions and prevent a fan revolt from happening.

I stated deadwood too. If we gave VVD and Salah massive money and long contracts and they drop off at the end of next year then we have massively blocked ourselves in getting other quality in. There's finite money and we have to be cautious with our spending. It's that caution and clever approaches to contracts (performance focused) that has got us competing with (and mostly outperforming) teams who are far more profligate than us.

Plus surely for konate the keita/thiago example is perfect. The guy is clearly a bit crocked and if he did something serious like an ACL he wouldn't come back from it like VVD did.

He does have spells out, and plenty on here have suggested he’s injury prone. And I’m guessing he’s suggesting that Konaté isn’t a natural athlete in the way VVD is, so an injury like an ACL would be more difficult to recover from for Konate.

I don’t think it’s that hilarious really….

Based on your twos record, I can almost guarantee I'll find some comment from the past about how the club are leaving us short in defence because konate can't be relied upon to play every game.

How can you twist every fact to be so anti FSG at all times? Quite incredible.

And before you start on me defending them, I would say it is clear some level of mistake has been made to leave us in this position BUT I think much of it is unavoidable and actually preferable to the alternative of just giving what players want all the time.

I've only seen it as banter when Mo scores a goal.

Stop being so precious.
