For a period of 3-4 years, he was the most accomplished CB in the world.
Great signing. £30m proved to be somewhat of a bargain in the end.
Agreed
Fek knows what Giggs has been on the last couple of weeks
He was everything a manager shouldn't be
Rio has been immense and deserved a send off but hey, Giggs nearly scored his free kick
brilliant player, brilliant career for club and country
Would have saved Phil Jones getting a wobbly head as well. Should have played Paddy, Vidic and Rio from the start one last time, ah well.....
Don't really think you can say any player recently has a had a good England career
It was strange that he didn't play against Hull. Vidic played a part and he was given a send off as he deserves. However, it is odd that he got the acclaim having decided to go when Rio didn't get a send off when he would have probably stayed given the chance. I do think it was the right time for Rio to go and he'll go leaving behind memories of being the best CB in the world during the end of the last decade.
After 12 years of great service, I'd have though he'd have been told earlier giving him the chance to be saluted by the SE.
So lets get this right.
Has Giggs as acting manager refused to give Rio a 1year contract extension (on the grounds that he is too old i presume) but is hanging about himself at the gage of 41 hoping that the new manager gives him a contract next year?
Why doesnt Giggs either give himself a new contract now... or find himself another job elsewhere?
Club should have handled things a lot better. Treating a servant of the club for 12 years like this is just plain wrong.
Some have been critical of him for his tweets which they say undermined a manager whilst they praise another who has questioned the ambition of the club, quality of his team mates and asked to leave twice, played crap and was awarded a new bumper contract. Since then, he has been average. Where is the consistency?
Whilst I appreciate at his age he should be getting ready to retire but this could have been handled better.
Rio, Utd Legend, thank you for 12 years of service.
Giggs would have had nothing to do with Rio's contract IMO, the same way he'll have nothing to do with the Shaw deal. He was only interim manager and wouldn't be making decision about the clubs future.
I think the club have either taken it upon themselves to sort out the transfer (in and out) early after last season, or LVG has already been in touch and told the club who to keep, who to sell etc.
The way Man Utd have treated Rio is disgraceful. I'm sure he would have been given a proper send off if Fergie was still manager.
Maybe Moyes should tweet that he is listening to:
