30 milion is way too much. He is been OK when I saw him play in 4/5 games this season. I don't understand this euphoria about OK left back.
well said op, rodriguez will be a cheaper and better signing.
Shaw's got better hair. So mark that down as a positive.
He also comes (if he joins) as a prodigious talent who a) we know can handle the PL, and b) can quite easily go on to be the best of the best. Also, the hair thing.

Have you seen Rodriguez's hair? I guess not...
To be fair, one is 18 and the other 21
Shaw is 18.
Lets say he stays with us until he's 30 and helps us win trophies, would 30 mill then seem cheap?

Let's say Rodriguez stays with us until he's 30 and helps us win trophies, would 15 million then seem cheap?
if you think Wolfsburg will sell us Rodriguez for 15m you're deluded, he'll end up costing around the same as Shaw 25-30m
Shaw is and will be better
can you tell me which of Wolfsburg's games you thought he played best in?
I'd be interested to see highlights on YouTube as i've never seen him play, or at least don't remember.
Impressive stats but they are for 2 completely different leagues. The Bundesliga may have 2 top teams but most would agree that the PL has better quality throughout. Wolfsburg are also better in their league than Saints are in the PL so I would imagine their stats would be better.
Shaw is 18 years old and just had a great season for a team that overacheived. He's proven in our league and will only likely improve with age. I'm sure Rodriguez will have a very good career but I'm more than happy with Shaw (if we get him).

Pony tail isn't it?? I've heard v.good things about him on the SG Boards, but I still can't trust a pony tail. We might be signing David Seaman by accident

Agree.
Shaw is going to be the GOAT
Rodriguez is in a worse league
When Madrid signed Coentrao for a similar £25m fee, I baulked at the figure, even though I hadn't seen him play very often at all. Just seemed stupid for that position.
Now we are doing it, I'm thinking "feck em, let's go like the Galacticos and spend massive in all positions"
We need to use our GOAT commercial deals to get us back to the pinnacle, otherwise we may lose our leverage when negotiating for these deals in the future. There is a massive season ahead for us, we can't feck it.
Shinjisshin, are there any other /sp/orts boards that you frequent? Genuine question here mate, sorry if it makes no sense.
cannot care less how much Shaw is he is excellent.
Glazers have milked millions out of the club over the years so it's about time they invested heavily into the squad that desperately needs it.
Shaw needs to be first of many new signings.
30m on the second coming of wayne bridge? Dark days
Why is he the second coming of Wayne Bridge, you probably said the same thing about Bale when he moved to Spurs seeing as he was also a LB from Saints.
All Saints fans are raving about Shaw and think at 18 is a more complete player than any other Saints player of recent times.
SHAW for £30m is an INVESTMENT in todays market.
The guy is 18 yr old, next season will be 19. Already 60 caps for Soton. He is proven in PL, and at Sunday he was a real threat against our team from time to time.
RODRIGUEZ will be 22, 1 week into the PL 14/15. 3 yrs more than Shaw, also a great talent. I actually have no idea what we can get Rodriguez for? Somewhere around £10-12m? Please correct me.
In my opinion (some points)
* The 3 yrs age difference shouldn't be underestimated. Shaw can develop further.
* I've heard that Shaw is a very great person, don't underestimate the thing that he has to fit in and have the right attitude. Again, know nothing about Rodriguez on this matter.
* Shaw is after all proven in the PL, firstly Shaw enjoy the life in England and also knows what we can expect from him, expect him to produce top performance from day 1. Rodriguez father is from Spain, mother from Chile, lives now in Germany - a huge move for him to go to England. This brings a greater chance of failure.
* Why couldn't either be a RB? Haha, or only Rodriguez for that matter? Can we scholar him? We need both LB/RB backup behind Rafael/(Shaw), a £10-12m push for him would sure be worth it, not having to play Smalling or Jones on the RB for half of the games...
Fellaini was proven in the Pl. Young, Valencia, too.
Mata, Silva, and other foreign imports were not proven in the PL until they came. Proven in the PL is s weak argument.
Sevilla's LB would cost around half of what Shaw is going for.
He is a talent but it is a big risk.
Alas, young English tax.
30m stupid for an 18yr old with 1 decent season. Silly money. But as someone said earlier, 'in today's market...'
