good evening oirish

to be honest irish i doubt if the younger fans dislike the great man as his iconic near god like status with the historians and F1 fans young and old seems to be growing stronger every year obviously helped by the likes of the briliant sky sports F1 channel that many fans now have access to,

personally i put his growing iconic status down to nobody that has come along after his death has shown themselves remotely close to senna on any level of the many levels that there are to driving a F1 machine and the intelligence that goes with such freakish ability -

just a little glimpse of his genius in one of the many dogs that he drove -

I could name you 10 drivers that were better than Senna.

Senna is only worshipped by people that know nothing about F1.

When F1 celebrated it's 60th anniversary they invited all of the living WDC's to comment on who they thought was the best driver that they personally drove against. Not a single one of them mentioned Senna. In another film regarding the history of F1 the famous F1 drivers were asked their view on who they thought the greatest driver ever. They all said Fangio.

Research John Surtees, Jim Clark, Jochen Rindt

Why should we have to say so and so is better though? Senna was clearly an icon of his time, my father talks about him as a legend, he used to love watching him race. Yeah, may not be the best of all time but so what?

Senna's achievements have been magnified because of his death. If he had not passed away so tragically, a lot of the praise would be tempered.

He was a great driver, no doubts about that whatsoever but I do not think he was the greatest.

who are these 10 drivers that you have obviously seen that you think are better than senna ?

have you got a link to this " 60th anniversary " be interesting to hear exactly what the drivers did say in fine detail -

as for what all the living F1 drivers think of senna -- here are 217 of them with over 9000 starts and over 270 wins between them in the most comprehensive poll ever undertaken by anybody anywhere

if you have a more credible link than this i am all ears -

good evening manx

what logical reason is there to magnify senna"s achievments because he died when his acheivments are on film for everybody to see in the cold light of day

-- many other great drivers have died but it is only senna that is generally regarded as the best ever , think the historians and experts that decide such things are a little more logical than to decide he is the best because he died --

for example who has come along after senna who has proved themselves better than senna -?

His main obstacle is out of the way now, Whitmarsh! I am sure you have been watching the last four races and its looking ominous if you are not a Lewis supporter.

not quite sure what you have got against MW as he does not design the cars however mclaren did provide lewis with some very good cars during his time there so lewis had his chances to add to his WDC tally which is more than most other drivers have -

must admit the merc is unbeatable at the minute and will remain ultra competitive all season , if hamilton does not win the 2014 WDC with the advantage he has there has to be a question mark against him -
-------- fair play to him he is doing what he should be doing so far --

The powers that be at McLaren concur with me, hence they got rid of him. So what are you unsure about?

mclaren did provide lewis with some very good cars during his time
-----------------------------
That is why he beat Alonso(remember he is falsely considered the best) in his ROOKIE year and won the 2008 WDC. If your memory still serves you well 2012 Lewis 'should' have won the WDC, what happened? Whitmarsh and his bunch of pit crew hooligans conspired to derail Lewis efforts.

nobody as yet knows the full story behind MW departure least of all any of us so it is pointless to speculate exactly what triggered his departure until we hear it from the horses mouth so to speak -

what has alonso got to do with anything ? when we are talking about whitmarsh and hamilton ,

you do realise that in the heat of battle mistakes are made by pit crews
------ how is that the fault of whitmarsh ,

lets not forget hamilton had a brilliant car in 2012 and despite his few failures he was very average in some of the races which also played a part in his 2012 season -

yeh we all saw 1993 when micheal had a superior rory byrne chassis with a works ford engine that had more power than mclarens v8 how good micheal was compared to senna -

Vettel beat Alonso, does it mean he's better than Alonso?

Are you not able to think for yourself, sense for yourself, make inferences from available facts? Do you need to wait for British tabloids to tell you what to think?

wasnt very clever at aus and monaco was he sport when there was nothing wrong with his car , and that is just two races from the top of my head no doubt there is a few more if i were to dig out that season from the clutter in my dvd cabinet -

sorry TH you cant blame everything on whitmarsh and bad luck , lewis has to take some of the responsibility when he had such a brilliant car all season --

what has vettel and alonso got to do with micheal and senna , the two pairings are not related manx -

i just gave you one example of 1993 when the superiority of senna in a dog of a car was evident and relevant to our comparison --

Ok, is there any reason that any company would announce its shaking up its organisational structure and that there would be painful decisions made, then proceed to fire their STAR performer? Is there any logic in that? Think Martial, I know you can just try you can do it!

you are speculating on something that neither of us understand , as i said we dont know what triggered his departure and we wont know until the full facts are made public knowledge so it is a little pointless to create hyperthetical scenarios as to why MW left until it is in the public domain -

Ok Martial
Let me enlighten you, Ron Dennis the then non-executive chairman of McLaren announced that he would be restructuring McLaren operations, which included making tough decisions, amongst which he fired Whitmarsh from his team principal position and then instated Eric Boullier as technical director.

So Whitmarsh did leave on his own accord, he was fired!

Ron Dennis has gone on public record to explain his reasons for dismissing Whitmarsh from McLaren F1.

I would have thought that anyone seriously interested in F1 would know that.

you are missing the point bud -- none of us know the fine detail or the complex nature of exactly why whitmarsh was stood down -

we all know what the outcome was but none of us on here knows exactly why it happened or the motives behind it , we can only speculate until we hear MW version of events -
