The problem is, that puts my numbers on 32, making it harder to shift out the players. Plus, it's probably my left back position that needs a stronger presence.

dont see it as small really, martinez can play both cb/dm earned his move to bayern excellent all throughout their cl winning campaign and was close to displacing busquets/pique internationally if it wasnt for his injury.
it would also give you one of the best mfs in the league so will need a really good deal
martinez commanded record fee in bundesliga, i think you are underrating a hell of a lot and im not 'ripping' you off at all

I'm not trying to demean Bender, a very good player in his own right but in terms of categorising id say Martinez is in top 5 dm's on form whereas Bender is a level below so theres a lot more in it then you say.
I had Martinez when i was on Arsenal on here as well so been watching his rise v closely but you can ask on hp if you want ..
