I disagree. I think Sven is panicking and hasn't a clue if he'll bring in a striker or not.

We probably will get a striker of some sort but I don't think he's formed an elaborate masterplan to pull off a real coup. If we get Maynard (unlikely) it will be because we've paid the price Bristol value him at. If we get a loan striker he will probably be out of form and in his 30s.

I'm pretty sure Sven invisioned us having a striker by now, before the season started in fact. I think we've acted too slowly and now our options are limited.

In any case I can't see a striker making a massive difference now anyway. I think it's quite frankly a joke that we haven't got any quality quick wingers.

We have spent a small fortune on new players on top of some decent players we already had, backing from the owners and excellent facilities yet don't appear vto have moved much further forward from last year.

The weakness I think is Sven himself, plays players out of position, drops them for little reason and doesn't seem to know anything about getting the best out of the players he has.

His attempts at bringing players in is frankly embarrassing to the Club and appears to show how little knowledge he has of managing a Championship team.

Time to look for a solid experienced manager who can work the players we have and find the missing links to make us a really promotion chasing team!

No offence to the OP, but quite frankly I'm bored of all this talk of another Striker.

I feel Nugent has the attributes to score 20 Goals a season - He's done it before, and but for a fraction of an inch he could be sitting nicely on 3 in 3, and things could be a lot different.

Having said that, I have no doubt if we offer £5mil + for Beckford, it will be accepted, and after Bill Kenwright's recent interview, I think it may be a case of "sorry mate, we need the cash".

I'd also rather see Beckford than most of the names being banded around.

The problem is offering the right price is the easy part, persuading a target to come to us is a whole different problem. Especially if they could, or do, play in the Prem.

True Blue whilst you make some fair points that at the moment I find it difficult to argue with, it's very premature to suggest changing manager. Sven should be given til the end of the season and if he hasn't taken us up it's probably right to look somewhere else.

But I don't want to go back to the days of constantly sacking managers, if we can help it.

Got to give SGE a year in charge, if not successful I'd agree to dump him. He's had unlimted cash to spend so if he do'snt get the job done he's ultimately to blame. Should we sack Sven - no. This is now his team and he must make it work. But the simple reality is that based on both past history and current form, there is a liklihood that we could lose the next two games and Sven's start to the season will be scarily like Sousa's, so the pressure will mount.

Do we need a striker? Of course we do.
This won't magically transform us into winners but the simple fact is that the players we have are not natural finishers in the mould of a Maynard.
I like Nugent but he is at his best hustling and bustling in and around the box, rathet than providing the final tap-in.

The problem is the formation. Wrong players in wrong positions - being outnumbered in midfield - wing-backs not over-lapping etc etc.

Sven has some of the Wenger about him in that he is resolute in his belief. Problem is, how long will the fans and owners have belief in him?

The worst possible thing that could happen now is to get rid of Sven. Do some of you have a hangover about him from his England days - remember his record there was second only to Ramsey's?
