TBH boss, India's bowling is probably worse, and it will be a suprise if the likes of Cook and Prior dont up their average to like 50 and 44.

I always knew that Cook's lean patch was going to come. And it will be really hard to come back from this. He is struggling against some of the worst attacks. If Cook doesnt score against India, he is surely going to be dropped. 27innings without a 100?

But overall happy to see Robson and Ballance perform. These 2 look quality, definately better than root.

I think ali has to go to make way for a specialist spinner maybe tredwell.

Cook is still driving off the back foot... hes getting caught half in half. teams will continue to bowl the fuller length.. he needs get further forward.. but he will not change whats made him do well in the past. even though its not working.. Needs to make a bigger stride down the pitch. that'll make the bowler change his length if he bowls to full.. The bowler may bowl shorter.. But cook will have to deal with it.

a lead of 130/150 will be to much for Sri-lanka.. the England bowlers will bowl better than they did in the first innings.I don't see the Lankans getting more than 250.

He's mentally gone while batting at the moment.. he wants to leave the ball. but then hes going at a snails pace.. and when he does try and drive the ball hes knicking it.. Needs to be more positive in footmovement.

At what point do they consider dropping Cook? Has more time because he's captain but not unlimited time.

Just a year ago, people were speculating whether he could score 18000 test runs playing another 10 years or just get satisfied with breaking Sachins record playing over next 8 years.
Now.. People are getting irritated and calling him to be dropped.
Wondering if English soil is not fertile enough to produce great batsman.

When I started watching cricket, Australia had Ponting, Gilchrist, Hayden, Langer and others were also great.
India had Sachin, Dravid
SA had Kallis, Smith
WI had lara
And englanf had the likes of hussain, vaughn, collingwood and other average.
Even now, when other nation have great batsman such as Clarke, Amla, ABdV, Kohli,Sanga.. England still are content with average batsmen.
Thought Cook would be the Great batsman that English youth would look forward too.

Robson or Ballance may well be 50 average player, but as an England fan I would rather be happy if Root was the better player because Root is produced by England, the satisfaction with foreign product somehow isnt total. Just like KP , he was great to watch but still he was a cricketer in the first place because of his cricketing culture in SA.
Still to have someone good, even though foreign is better than having none.
I think if Robson had enough confidence of his talent he would try hard to play for his own country, but he wasnt and he opted for England.
Even Asian players coming through the rank are cricketers because of their asian-ness. Their Idols are the players of their respective nation of origin.

You gotta question cook surely? Plunkett was the best bowler in the first innings. cooks not gone for him yet. and 20 overs nearly into the sri-lankans second innings.. the guys f-king clueless.

I think England need to search some state player in Australia who looks captain material, or south africa, else I think Morgan is servicable.

Now the problem is even if you strip captaincy off Cook, that might be a big blow to Cook, he might start thinking of himself as a failure. Cook is gone now for sure.

what pees me off with Cook. Plunkett took 5 wickets in the first innings. he waits to the 18th over. he should have been given the ball after the 7th./8th over... Cook will cost England with his decision making.

I hope England hammer India, and when you get plum lbw's and snicks to the keeper etc.... and the umpire doesn't give it.... no review system???? Cook should concentrate on his batting... his PR is rubbish.... like his batting over the last 12 months... any other player would have been Pietersoned! Bell should be captain.

I would drop cook and make anderson captain. Would also drop jordan broad and ali. My replacements would be carberry stokes bresnan and tredwell. The batting collapse today shows the weakness of the tail. Would be much shorter tail with stokes and bresnan who offers something a bit different to the bang it in bowling of broad plunkett and jordan.

Am happy with the England line up. But for the firs test against India.. id drop Moeen Ali and Jordan and replace them with Stokes and a spinner.

This is a joke right? I'd definitely look at replacing Jordan with a spinner, but I doubt I'd change much else.
