We need a top class player in there considering how we are not the best at pressing.
-=-=-=-=-=-
Very astute and crucial point there.
Whenever Arsenal have played the 'pressing game', they've really looked the part, but they do it so sporadically, that it's clear that it's not specifically part of their game/style.
I'm curious to know if it's a fitness thing? Naturally I'm dubious that it is, because the likes of Ramsey and co are just about some of the fittest players in the league and the amount of ground they cover is pretty incredible.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I have been shouting about this for years!! It really baffles me. When we play the pressing game we can beat anyone, but when we decide to sit back we look very very average.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think thats because of Arteta and Mertseacker. But it began with Song who was just as slow.
Its OK to press when you have speed in your defenders to cover. But if a team is clever enough to play around you, and lets face it Southampton and Swansea, even Norwich had better possession in their home game against us, then you will get burnt. I haven't touched on our susceptibility to the counter attack.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That was actually even before we signed the two of them. When you press well enough as a team, the threat of the counter attack is reduced astronomically. Opposition teams will still slip behind you one or few times, but most of the time they will be too busy hoofing the ball straight to your CBs. The standing off game we are playing suits absolutely no one at the moment. It's painful to watch at times.

Gazdis told the AST cheap as chips for DM.
So I would personally go for Leroy Fer.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Surely we could afford Schneiderlin? It's not like he is in the de Rossi/Martinez bracket price and reputation wise.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Southampton turned down Lallana for £25m. This is when Lallana (26) is almost the same age as Cesc (27) £26m. Cesc made the goal that won a world cup. Lallana will be going to his first!
They are nuts.

The last time we pressed high was with Flamini/Cesc in midfield.

He's been awful by all accounts.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hasn't he mostly been played in right midfield in a straight 4-4-2?
His demands for a place in the team when he was nowhere near it most probably have had the complete opposite effect.
Wonder what happened to the Gonalons link. Had quite some traction a while ago.
-=-=-=-=-=-
Maxime Gonalons was rated as probably the best player playing that position in France. This season he's not been at quite the same level. By no means has he been bad, just not quite hitting the consistency of the season before.
Napoli are said to be interested, but it's all gone a bit cold on that front.
His stock isn't quite at the level of a year ago, hence might come cheaper than previously thought.

For whatever reason March, like Senderos, Djourou, Denilson, others I rather we not bring back players low on confidence.
Moist, Gazidis gave the impression (from what I am reading), its not only fee but wages as well.
ffp = wages + fee.
So I rather we blow the lot on Di Maria and Benzema if thats who they are going after.

Di Maria is unlikely I think. Surely they are aware of his quality and might keep playing him in centre mid to accommodate CR and Bale.
With Benz it's different because of them being interested in Suarez.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Gonalon's a little off the radar atm, as Moist pointed out.
Wages
----
Shouldnt be as much as a problem with trash
like the self styled Danish Messi no longer on the books, Park has gone as well that is another 50 grand off the wage bill it's just mind blowing that these useless players were paid so much.
Re: Gonalons.
There is probably a reason why he has gone of the radar. And the French league! Not the best. Add that to the French owners special rates for Wenger. I rather we get someone used to the prem but cheap. Hence my personal choice of Fer.
I wish we had gotten McCarthy last year than Flamini.
Re: Di Maria.
He wants more money. Real Madrid don't like players demanding wages. They have bent over backwards for C.Ronaldo. But I agree its unlikely because of the number of games he has played. Very much the first choice.
I was just being facetious, in that Gazidis talking about better targets than Cesc.
We can always go for Reus. (another player we have no chance of signing.). Maybe we can do that 'chain reaction' thing that dj was talking abt and hope that real Madrid buy Reus and sell us Di Maria.

I don't think he is enough of a brute for us. I would rate Flamini's ball winning and aggression ahead of Schneiderlin's. Since we need an upgrade on Flamini, Morgan can go fook himself.
