It is like groundhog day on here right now.

What is the next article - Lampard & Gerrard can't play together

i did notice that pirlo was getting his passes out quicker, but gerrards played the position for less than a season

posted on 17/6/14

Pirlo also had Verratti and De Rossi next to him.

Pirlo kept knocking hollywood balls out for goal kicks

but they're maestro, world class, controlling the game hollywood balls out for goal kicks.

Worrying that people still believe Gerrard should be starting.

posted on 17/6/14

no one is even remotely close to displacing him though. Not even for a trail.

He's still better than the other options by a distance and he was one of the best players in the league this season playing pretty much every week.

if we've got better or even close to as good by all means drop him like a stone.

we just dont

It's not about being the better player.

It's about being better for the TEAM.

A point we've ignored for so long in this country. Fitting players in where possible just because they're in form for their club, and/or they're a big name. Exactly what we're doing with Gerrard at the minute.

Brendan Rodgers is a genius. He's created a system that doesn't show Gerrard's weaknesses. Hodgson hasn't got enough time with the squad to do that, so they're all being highlighted.

Completely agree. Completely dominated by Pirlo and De Rossi. Both are world class but supposedly so is Gerrard and he didn't look anywhere near Pirlo's level.

Gerrard just looks too slow now and he doesn't have the guile or flair which allows Pirlo to still perform at this level even at his age. I'd drop him and try a combination of Wilshere/Henderson, Wilshere/Milner, or even Wilshere/Barkley or Lallana. Or even Henderson/Milner. We don't necessarily have to have players who are that good on the ball as our attacking players can combine to create chances, we just need runners and players who can nullify top quality players like Pirlo.

I know Gerrard will play as Hodgson isn't a strong or good enough manager to risk dropping him, but I just don't think his international performances are good enough now, and even when he was younger he could never compete with the very best in that position. To call him an England legend, which is what Adrian Chiles did, is an absolute farce. Gerrard has never done anything of note with England, and only reached the quarter finals with them. A Liverpool legend yes, but absolutely not an England legend and never will be.

well he didnt play that position when he was young

Pirlo did f^^k all the entire match and only succeeded in knocking hollywood balls out for goal kicks. Italy didn't create a single thing through the middle.

If that's domination I'll pass.

Wilshere is a classic case of someone getting better when they are not playing. He is playing very poorly, has never done anything for England or for his club and when he came on did his usual running into three people and then falling over and holding his ankle.

If Rooney had took his chance then no-one would be talking about Gerrard. Gerrard was not outclassed by anyone and did the job asked of him. People keep mooting things soundbites like he is too slow without actually being able to say what he did badly during the game.

As said Gerrard plays in a short passing team and has had a great season. Perhaps you should be looking at the manager not the Captain.

Gerrard completed the most passes, made the most tackles, had the most touches, made 13 long balls 11 of them accurate, made the most crosses and had the highest amount of turnovers in the entire England team.

You've got to love it when people don't know wtf they are talking about.

Even Gerrard can't do this:

Thing is Gerrard is past his best, we do need to be looking for someone to take his place (very soon), he doesn't have the legs to play box-to-box anymore, and it's been quite a while since he's scored one of those crackers from 20+ yards (and he probably won't ever again).

All valid criticisms. We're not blind as Liverpool supporters and we're not backing him because he's our player.

But as Robbing just pointed out the reasons you give for wanting him out are basically fiction.

Just another point here, when Gerrard is allowed to get forward by Roy he does effect the game. He nearly won a peno (bit of a stretch I know but he was there pressuring defenders in the box) and in the previous competitive match did this;

Which is more than Wilshere has managed in 19 games.

Standard kneejerk Article..

Had Gerrard got awarded a pen, if Rooney and Sterling scored... Then no would be saying anything!

We got unlucky and some fans just love a witchhunt

Kneejerk? Haven't you watched England for the last 4 years?

This has been building up since South Africa.

Brainwashed by the big name, some people.

I actually think that Rooney shpuld be dropped imo.

But you got to think that italy only scrapped past us compared to the thrashing we got last time...

Building up

Instead of writing generic sound bites it would be good if you could address the points that I have raised otherwise you saying we should drop our top performing midfielder sounds a bit silly.

Drop Gerrard/rooney seems to be sponsoring the England team in this World Cup

You English lads do like a good moan

Gerrard is by far the best option for the deeper role England have, he's a great captain and leader and his influence on the squad is pivitoal.

And it's hilarious, drop Gerrard but play Henderson and Jack W as a deep mf pair this OP wants a FIFA team without a player he dislikes

posted on 19/6/14

Gerrard has been rubbish for years now. Used to perform well in poor Liverpool sides but has been utterly useless for England throughout his entire career *

*Like Rooney, he does okay against minnows in friendlies and qualifiers. Like Rooney, he is a big match bottlejob.

posted on 19/6/14

Rooney misses a sitter from a yard and Gerrard totally lost.

Told ya

I'll give Gerrard his due - he's good at fist pumping.
