Scored the goal that got England to the world cup, and was their best player at the last two major tournaments.
How ungrateful are some people ?
England's best player
Big deal
"Scored the goal that got England to the world cup, and was their best player at the last two major tournaments."
So it only took one goal to qualify for the World Cup?
The guy is well past it and always has these awful mistakes in his locker. I still remember his pass back to James which led to France getting a pen in Euro 2004.
That should be his last game in an England shirt. Wouldn't even bother with him against Costa Rica.

I wouldn't play him against Costa Rica either. To be fair, you put him in a 3 and he'd be far more effective. To put a 34 year old in a two man midfield at this level is mental. Roy simply doesn't learn. It should have been gerrard, Henderson and Barkley/Wilshire in a 3. Then have the balls to either drop Rooney or play him wide.

One of the reasons why I want Hodgson gone too.

Who would want you for a manager??
Finally people realising.
Gerrard is not good enough any more. Most of the goals he scored for Liverpool last season were penalties and anyone can perform on the same team as Suarez. He's been a decent servant but needs moving on. Always goes missing in the games that matter. Uruguay's central midfield is hardly stellar and Gerrard still didn't get the better of them. I've always thought Gerrard played better for Liverpool than England but we can't just blame Gerrard, we have to look at the players around him.
Gerrard made both mistakes for the goals but the defence was a massive let down. Jagielka is not international class and neither is Cahill in my opinion. Baines is good for his club but again not good enough at this level it seems. Ashley Cole was far superior in his prime. Glen Johnson is probably the best we have at right back but again not top quality. Hart is very good despite some comments but needs a strong back four in front of him which he doesn't have. For the future, Shaw could be exceptional and Stones looks very good. Phil Jones could become a Terry type player but needs to play regularly for his club.
In midfield Gerrard played alongside Henderson for large parts of last season but look how many goals they conceded. This suggests Henderson is not an effective anchorman and as he doesn't contribute much going forward either, is he really good enough for England? The other options: Wilshere - very good player when fit and has qualtiies you need at this level, but he is so weak physically; Milner - can play there and has a great engine and work rate, I can't understand why he has never been tested in this position alongside a Wilshere for example, but lacks quality technically; Carrick - has the right qualities but getting on now, we need younger blood. Perhaps Barkley or Lallana could play there but I'm not sure they have the work rate to succeed there. Problem area for the future for sure as I can't think of any young top quality players, maybe Chalobah but Chelsea never give young players a chance.
In attack England are definitely strongest. Rooney in the middle behind Sturridge can definitely work. Sterling had a poor game last night against uruguay's dirty tactics but is only 19 and showed against Italy what he's capable of. Welbeck shouldn't be in the team - he doesn't even start for United who finished seventh and is very poor technically - and Lambert won't get another chance. Barkley is an exceptional talent and needs to be brought into the team straightaway. I think Lallana has been unfairly treated at this world cup given his form for Southampton last season, but Roy loves crap players like Welbeck so what do you expect. Lallana is a beautiful footballer and has technical ability so I'm sure he will be in future England squads.
The manager is not good enough. We need to bring in a manager who has won things and Roy has never been good enough for England. I agree he been more attack minded this world cup compared to the euros but we have lost both games. We need a Mourinho type manager, even if it does mean dull football at times. Look how Mourinho got Cahill performing for Chelsea last season. The man is a tactical genius and far superior to Hodgson. Whether he would take the job I don't know, but he is the sort of manager that could actualyl do something with a team like England. Not Hodgson.
Gerrard should never have been picked in the squad, let alone made captain.
He has been past international football to the required standard for some time now.
