Argentina's right back is better. CBs more or less on the level with England and their LB is a CB.
Portugal have Pepe, who is always a red card waiting to happen and even then overrated.
Portugal have no decent striker. And why did they take Nani who has been injured and out of form all season whey Ricardo Q could have been a better option? Or forget taking any striker (They should have taken Bebe), and use Ronaldo up front with Nani and RicardoQ supporting.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I can't believe how much people were tipping Portugal to do well at this tournament. Without Ronaldo they would not have even qualified. Even with Ronaldo they finished 2nd behind the worst Russia side in 15 years. They are as bad as England, and that's saying something.
next game should be:
beto
pereira
alves
pepe
veloso
meireles
moutinho
carvalho
nani
ronaldo
varela

Portugal looked a cracking side in Euro 2012 - especially when they destroyed Holland 4-1 (could have been 10) and took Spain to extra time in the semis. Some of those players have declined since then.
No I don't feel sorry for Ronaldo. Not one bit.
Read this famous Jewell quote. It was said before his Mega-money move to Madrid. Oh and he wasn't banging this at the time -

Anyway here's the quote -
Paul Jewell (BBC Sports):
- "Ronaldo is six-foot two, brave as a lion, strong as an ox and quick as lightning. If he was good looking, you'd say he has everything."
he plays for the greatest side in the world, just won the CL, and makes a gajillion quid a year.
must be brutal
Eder is one of the worst footballers I've ever seen.
no i dont feel sorry for ronaldo he couldnt even hit the target last night, free kick was horrible another shot flew over the stadium itself so no if he really was as good as ppl make him out to be than he`d do better than that
Eder is one of the worst footballers I've ever seen.

the guy could'nt hold up the ball, bad controll and cant pass..taking bebe was a mistake nani and bebe on wing and ronaldo through central
How can anyone put Portugal on the same level as Wales, northern Ireland or Liberia?
No I don't feel sorry for him in the slightest. Was poor yesterday and can't blame that on players around him.
This assumption that Portugal are a cráp side carried by Ronaldo simply isn't true. They've been one of the strongest and most consistent international sides since the turn of the century, anyone who thinks the opposite is blind or in denial.
In the 4 Euros held since 2000, they've been finalists once, semifinalists twice and quarter finalists once.
They've also reached a World Cup semi and last time round were knocked out by the eventual champions in a very tight game (same as in the 3 of the Euros they've contested).
For the best part of a decade and a half they haven't had any less quality than Argentina in '86, who had a handful of good players to support Maradona.
Their current side might not be at the level they've been for the past decade, but they've certainly provided a great platform for a player many claim is one of the game's all-time greats, a platform with which it wouldn't be at all unreasonable for an all-time great to make the difference.

I'm sorry, but what does their record in 2000-2010 have to do with their current World Cup team? They had Figo playing for them at one point during that period.
They needed to take the playoff route just to qualify for this tournament. They're hardly a top side
In case you hadn't realised, the article's opening lineis "Every time he gets to play in a big stage he doesn’t get the support from his national teammates apart from moutinho."
...which is then backed up by comments from other contributors like "Ronaldo is part of that group of exceptional players who were unlucky to have to play for poor countries e.g. George Weah, Ian Rush, Gareth Bale."
Agree with IOAG. Portugal's first 11 is pretty strong, and should be more than capable of making to the quarter finals.
Their main problems are that they lack real depth - beyond the first team their options are pretty poor - and that they haven't had a half-decent striker since Pauleta. Honestly, i think they'd have been better off with 10 men yesterday rather than have Eder. I just couldnt believe how bad he was. It was as if they'd plucked some random guy off the street before the match.
But on paper that first 11 is comfortably one of the top 10 in the world. They've all underachieved, Ronaldo included.
Pauleta himself was a rubbish striker. Their options up front have been poor for some years, even if you go back. They usually had a decent to great midfield and average defence.
If you think 'on paper that first 11 is comfortably one of the top 10 in the world,' then you probably think the same about England because, take out Ronaldo, they aren't better.

Why would you take out Ronaldo? He's part of the first 11, is he not?
Which would Ronaldo's fans say has been his best international tournament ever?
Portugal have actually been not to bad in recent tournaments, their small population doesn't help though. What about players like Bale, Ibra & Lewandowski who play for crap sides?
Reason I ask, is that in each tournament, Portugal have gone out through very fine margins, either a single goal in a low-scoring match (bar vs Germany in '08). These are precisely the games where a match-winner makes all the difference, and it really does bring into question Ronaldo's capacity to produce something out of nothing when it matters most.
