I still think it's a little overboard. There are not many precedents in any sport of people being banned for life and then they are it's generally for something far more abhorent that marking up someones skin.
The ban is not to cure him - it's punish him and as such they do work.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, sort of. But there're also supposed to be a deterrent as well, hence his increased ban on the last occasion.

Problem is, the bans aren't working. I'm sure after his last ban he thought to himself that that he wouldn't do it again, hence his relatively excellent disciplinary record last season. He just cannot help it, so you've either got to ban him for life, which obviously is too extreme, or get him some proper treatment. Make him spend the rest of pre season in a clinic, getting proper intensive treatment. At the end of it, he gets assessed by maybe three specialists, and if they think he's cured then fine, let him play on. Put the proviso that if it happens again he gets banned for life....
==
A well thought out punishment/treatment.
However who would compensate Liverpool if he is deemed insane or very quickly does this again and gets himself a lifetime ban?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Don't really know tbh. If a doctor certified he's too mentally ill to take to the field, then maybe it's an insurance job????

It's normally for undermining the integrity of the entire sport (drugs, corruption. etc.).
For anything other than that, I think you'd get a legal challenge, as you're stopping somebody from earning a living.
Having checked it seems most are from American sports for either drugs or bringing the sport into disrepute so I'm not sure what our owners will think.
Can't find any for violence other than the Man Utd kid who banged out a ref.

It's hard enough to claim on home / car insurance.
Imagine trying to draw a little picture of him "alledgedly" biting Chiellini and then the next one him wrapped up in a straight jacket
Robbing, Luis has done the 'counselling' gig and was supposed to be a different person, and he is, he's worse!
A six month world-wide or a two year international ban could well be on the cards.
JimmyTheRed
How is he worse?
This is different because it's not socially acceptable but come on. I'll say right now that there will be no 6 month to 2 year ban and rightly so.
It's weird that Barton can beat a child so badly that he goes to prison, beat his team mate so bad that he gets a suspended sentence, stick a lit cigar in a youth players eye, rake his studs down someone when play has stopped, punch a player during a match, smash numerous others with dangerous tackles and not one person Jimmy, not even you, called for any kind of world wide uber ban. This is a man with a violent propensity and you didn't say a thing.
Biting is weird, it's odd, but lets not start wetting ourselves eh. Rather be bit than spat on tbh.
He's probably been made fun of for his prominent teeth his whole life. The big "goofy, goofy","you goofy b$$£*","what's up doc?","want some rabbit food?" and so on and this must have an effect on someone. Imagine if Chiellini was making these comments the whole match. It's no wonder he reacted.
The only solution is a nice set of straight dentures.

Ok deal Barton got a Jail sentence for one of his offences. Suarez is welcome to one too

Agreed Barton fully deserved what he got and thats far far worse than what Suarez has done and the 2 shouldn't be compared, i have no dislike of either Liverpool or Suarez, but for me as i've said before what do the powers that be have to do so that Suarez learns from his mistakes because the punishments so far clearly haven't worked.
The punishments are to punish not to cure surely? Ramos has been sent off 19 times.
I'm not trying to belittle the act(s), it's weird, but I do think many are going a touch over board.

There has been some OTT reactions, the punishments are also ment to deter and make the player think twice
How many people has Cattamole endangered when he's smashed them?
I know it's weird and I know he can't do that but lifetime ban? Have a word.
Robbing, I'm not challenging anything you say there. But while Barton has done all these things, and paid the price, this is Luis' third time at the same gig. I'm in the USA just now and it's dominating the WC coverage. It really is sad to listen and hear our player being lambasted - rightly - by one and all. And there doesn't seem to be an answer, any answer to his problem.
JimmyTheRed
He is mental. There is an answer though Jimmy and that's that we sell him cos lets face it if he were abroad no-one would be quite so vociferous. Certainly not here. All those people pretending that they're worried about people health, what if he gets a jugular, all that nonsense, are full of it.
Still can't believe he's done it you know. Muppet!
