Different times, different attitudes to managers and players. In those days, the gaffer ruled the club top to bottom. Now it’s all pandering to players, dealing with agents, celebrity lifestyles, head coaches instead of managers, players being transferred without the approval or knowledge of manager, technical directors, etc..... It’s part of the modern game. A manager could take a stance and not bow to players tantrums, refuse to deal with agents, give his players a slap if they misbehave but he wouldn’t last long if he did
Its hard to judge because of the passage of time.
I don't think Ferguson would have sold him. He had his own problem players and didn't get rid if they were top quality.
Managers further back probably would have done, but then a Uruguayan who was one of the best in the world wouldn't have even been in England in the 70's.
Suarez must be more stupid than anyone thought. He signed a new contract, kept saying all year how he would not be leaving us then he instigated the move by biting someone and getting himself sent away from the world cup. Its nice to see that he was willing to give up the world cup (pinnacle of football for his ilk) so that he could engineer a club move.
The lad needs help undoubtedly but if he is not already aware surely someone at Anfield can make plain to him the heritage and history of LFC and the damage done.
Despite being from the Red side of Manchester - and we have had our share of dubious goings on - and being old enough to remember Shanks and Paisley ,I still find myself ill at ease with a lot of what has been said over the past few days.
they would lock the office door, rool up sleeves and beat his teeth out themselves
Clough would have bitten Suarez back, but much harder.
