You need to come to SOAS to find that answer.

Course you are! You have a serious head on you, just come on here to blow off steam like the rest of us.
For info, in Islamic terms after sunset is the start of the new day, thereby technically Ramadan has started.
In this case, the moon has to be seen by someone, right?

Hard to be unbiased about the truth lad.
the moon sighting is to do with the start of the new month, (Ramadan being one of the months.)
The moon has been placed as a calendar, the "new moon" appears for a short time in the evening, a thin silvery segment, and each subsequent day gets larger until it reaches a "full moon" which marks the middle of the month, after which the segments start getting smaller until they disappear.
Typically this cycle is 29 days, with the sighting of the "new moon" again marking the start of a new month. Where the new moon isn't sighted then the current month will have 30 days, and the next month will start the day after that.
Right have consumed a bowl of muesli, portion of belvita biscuits and two glasses of vimto cordial.
Will that get me through to 21:30?
It'll have to!
What do they do in the Arctic circle?
Serious question btw, if the sun never sets..?
Just curious
Good question, the convention, I believe, is to take the times from the nearest place where the sun does set.
Going to be fasting from 3:21 to 7:08 out here. Right now it isn't so hot as it rained the past few days but it's going to be tough without water the next few days...

They may think you are a sheep.

Is not always to bite me. One big fricken golden retriever tried to mount me. Other dog left it's owner and followed me home.

Do you work in the butchers or something?
