I definitely don't want Brazil to go out till the Semi's at the earliest, IMO it'll feel like the party is over over there if they get knocked out! Not for the other nations but as a spectacle as a whole. They've really made it 'their' WC so far and have been amazing

Not to mention there has been hero's and villains at the WC too.

I felt so so bad for Chile, they and Columbia have lit up the place and I already hate that they have gone home! (Chile)

Agree There's only One Matter.

The host nation needs to go far to keep up the 'party'. I can imagine how disinterested the population would be if we hosted the Cup and was knocked out within 2 games.

It has been an incredible world cup indeed. Everything the op has mentioned is spot on
And it does make the PL look laughable and amateur-like.
But do not worry people , in a fortnight when the WC is over , trust Sky , the Sun and all the other PL worshipers to start telling us the long wait for exciting football is almost done as the "best league" in the world is about to kick off and save all of us from our misery

I really enjoyed '98. There where some awesome European teams and players back than. Not money-driven, but just passion. Holland and France played some of the best football i've ever seen. Viera, Petit, Henry, Bergkamp, Overmars, Ronaldo, Kluivert, Dessaily, Trezeguet, Davids, Cocu, Stam, VDS, Blanc, Deschamps, Rivaldo, Suker, Owen, Batistuta and Vieri.

All amazing players and they all played in their prime.

This WC has been amazing, but different. Not yet one for the top top players, but the collective team-effort seems to pay of more.

For excitement this is by far the best World Cup I've seen. (86 I started watching). Far cry from South Africa which I think was the worst.

However can't wait for Premier league to start. You can't beat IMO the excitement if watching your own team play

So far, so good. Just hope we see some tournament defining moments in the knockouts to cap this all off. And Brazil going deep will keep me happy. Living in a town with a large Brazilian population, it was fairly entertaining round here yesterday.

Oh, I don't get the idea that the WC makes the PL look amateurish. Odd comment.

The refereeing standards have been very poor.

France 98 was the last good WC,with the Asia WC having its moments.
South Africa didn't live up to the lively atmosphere off the field Unfortunately.

I'm going to feel slightly depressed that it is back to the regularity of the PL and club football

With us signing all these new players I think the above comment is a mistake. I can forgive hungover grammatical/spelling errors, and on this occasion I can forgive the above comment also. Moyes caused a lot of insecurity amongst United fans; I think LvG will bring back our air of invincibility

I watched at least a few matches from the stands in 1994 (US), 1998 (France), 2006 (Germany), 2010 (SA), and 2014 (Brazil).

This month, I watched Holland vs Spain, Germany vs Portugal, and France vs Switzerland in Salvadore. I will be going again for the semi-final in BH.

This is easily the best WC I have ever watched. Attendance is great. The atmosphere is exciting. Teams are being aggressive in trying to win. So many goals already!

I must confess that I kind of lost interest in the WC after 1982 as nobody really produced the kind of interest in me that that Italian team produced.

Ever since then, EVERY WC has been totally, mindnumbingly, boring. Very uncompetitive it turned into showcase for the new breed of 'superstar footballers' looking for their next big move. Something Wenger fell for a lot since his arrival in London.

However, this is my 13th WC and there finally seems to be a genuine interest in the games.

Case in example is the dramatic finish this afternoon. Mexico was the better team for 87 minutes and Holland manages to outsmart them at the end.
