Sure they are. However they are not as easy to add files as with an Android tablet.
I'd never heard of a nook before now.
My bro has a kindle fire and they are pretty smart.
Well this has taken an unexpected turn....!!!!
No chance of getting an iPad .....had enough of Apple.
Well that escalated quickly

Are all the songs in chinese though?
If it's for a 2.5 yr old child, I would buy a cheap Chinese device. You can pick them up for < £60 (I paid £120 for mine 3yrs ago and it still gets used for 10hrs per day).
You just know if you buy something expensive it will get damaged or lost especially if it is for a 2.5 yr old. A tantrum will see it fly out of the child's hands onto a very hard surface. Young children never throw anything breakable when they are on the beach, they wait until they are on a hard surface
Here is a not so cheap alternative to a kindle fire (£90), it has same screen, quad core (kindle only has dual core), can expand storage with micro SD card.

A lower specced tablet (lower res screen) can be had here for (£70)

Depending on your requirements, Amazon have tablets from £30 here

Kids tablets are crap;they look good but that soon wears off when the battery dies after half an hour. I bought my little lad this http://www.amazon.co.uk/product-reviews/B00G459IG2/ref=cm_cr_dp_see_all_btm?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1&sortBy=bySubmissionDateDescending
It's £180 in Costco for the 10-inch,and you get a 2 year warranty.
I love Costco.
