When it comes to Torres, is Roman..........

ironically he was able to swallow his pride on the Shevchenko debacle rather more easily than with Torres!

think it's more likely that no-one in the club hierarchy is willing/able to admit what a colossal fack up the whole sorry affair has been for us. other irony is we've spent a facking fortune (far more than we 5.punked on Torres) on creative players to try and make him come good

Perhaps it is simply a case that no-one is willing to pay his salary and pay a transfer fee, i.e. we cannot offload him.

I'm sure he score loads alongside Costa.

I think it's a bit out of Roman's hands now to be honest.

He's probably as sick of Torres as the rest of us but the problem is those damn wages.

Which club in their right mind would pay Torres 175k per week or anything even close to that?

Let's be honest Torres would be lucky to find a club willing to pay him even a third of that and that is the crux of the problem.

Torres will stay for that reason but as I've said before he will get significantly less game time from now on and that can only be a good thing for the club.

What we need to do now is bring in a good second choice striker so the best that Torres can hope for would be as a rarely used third choice striker.

fair enough.............

Now if Jose performs the Management level of Torres' performances next season, do you think the club will give a flying whatsname about the pay-out?

I realise there will be clauses etc and a Manager is different.

We don't play with two strikers so I don't see why Costa's introduction means more goals for Torres.

Hopefully this signals the end of regular appearances of Torres in a Chelsea shirt. If we buy another striker then it definitely will do.

Hopefully the club have accepted that the remainder of Torres's contract is a just a formality that will have to be paid off and that there will be no more attempts to revive this dead horse.

The Torres contract still has two years to run which means the club still have to pay him 19m.

For him to be released , the buyer will have to meet his wages, min, and we could let him go on a free.

if we keep him and pay his wages he at least can be amortised , i.e. value written off against tax.

Im not an accountant ,but I'm sure a more qualified person will explain the amortisation tax rule.

In this era of FFP, will not just write off a 20m asset.

Maybe we could set him up like Mutu, problem solved.
though I doubt now Torres is even worth investing a couple of grams on.

Just wondering, if players can decide when to move, whilst on contract, and clubs can decide to sell players whilst on contract, and sack manager left right and centre, why cant they just sack Torres? Just sack him. If I dont perform at my job for 3 years in a row I would be long sacked.

I'm not an accountant either but I'm pretty sure you can't write off wages against tax as they're an operating cost. You can write off Torres' value as his contract expires (so assuming they did straight-line amortisation of £10m per season of a 5-year contract there's a £20m tax amortisation) but his wages will also be included in the books as a current liability, so there'll be an almost minimal net amortised amount.

That being said, football accounts are always done very strangely, so all of that may be rubbish!
