Why do we always assume it is a football related problem? Are we not shiiit at most sports? Maybe it's also something to do with our culture and attitude to sport in general?

Not really. our kids at international level are usual tone of the most talented in sports. Unfortunately they get let down once they reach university. The Englishsystem is not geared to assist kids that want to be educated and have a professional career. a lot of them have to choose one. so most of them fade away instead of reaching the top.

We have no decent University leagues for sport. We don't even televise it unless its a vanity match which although it's traditional very rarely exposes the great talent amongst the English kids.

I'm talking more about the bigger sports than the Olympics. Sure we did well there, although it helps having a home advantage. In terms of the big world sports we always underachieve.

I agree that probably when it comes to sport facilities and having the coaching available to develop young athletes we fall well short. You only have to look at the way tennis courts are run in this country.

Very good points and a good read. The welbeck example is hitting the nail on the head. It doesn't help to have the bbc virtually having no interest in major sports other than wimbledon and the open which forces kids to watch sport via a razzmatazz attitude from satellite tv.
There are not enough sporting academies in the country.
When you watch a foreign player interviewed they often speak very good english and seem to have a better breadth of knowledge overall than our young players.
A multitude of things need addressing but i have bored you all enough.

The vast sums of money and undeserved media gushing and hype on young EPL players make them think they've already made it. They don't really care to push on like the top players, and do not play with the same desire as those who earn less.

You only have to look art the hunger and desire in the WC teams to see who wanted it. Compare the US attitude vs England? It how about Belgium vs the attitude of Costa Rica? What's the connection? English players all play in the EPL, and so do most of Belgians.

They think they've already got it made. And as for 30m for shaw, stupidity. Rooney in footballing terms is worth nowhere near the figure quoted for his salary, but in terms of marketing value....,

To be honest there is no great issue our recent decline that is down to the management. Tactics wrong and no motivation. Would you be motivated by negative woy? Or would you trust the clueless fa leader who thinks we can win the world cup in qatar?

It is not as if england are a bad team and dont tell me we cannot produce good players ferdinand and terry two of the best centre backs in europe a few years ago, paul scholes one of the best midfielders, gary neville second best right back playing in europe other than cafu in the early nouties.

We were also very unlucky.....90,96,98,02,04,06,10 (eventhough we played poor but it clicked against germany with the faux goal) given the correct management we will do a lot better. Also our bad luck will change, spain had it for years unlucky alsorans with a lot of pressure.

We pump in far too much money to not produce talent. We should do it a lot better and I feel the american system is the one to copy but we hold our own for such a small country.

theres no crisis over youth development and this might sound silly but the benefits of mass immigration sporting wise will be shown over the next 10 years. We will have the choice of kids born here aswell as kids who have moved here after birth therefore expanding the talent pool significantly.

get a new manager, a brave manager and we are contenders for euro 2016.
