Expecting big things from Mesut next season

Welcome back

It seems to me that Ozil has, weirdly, gotten his 'Second Season Syndrome' out of the way in his first season. I also expect better things from him now that he's more in tune with things around him.

No excuses for Mesut this season. Don't expect his style of play to win him any PL player of the season awards, but it will win us lots of games.

You mean you left just over a year ago. Anyway Ozil seems flat footed player like berbatov. I don't think he is as good as the hype.

Hajifur is a fool. Can we have a civil discussion without the typical fools chiming in for once?

I'm not sure he'll improve massively. He'll be knackered from the WC, won't get a proper pre-season and probably miss the first few games. Happened with Cesc, to an extent, after the 2010 WC and Mesut isn't that naturally fit. Hopefully I'm wrong.

That said, he wasn't exactly bad last season. Much like at the world cup, he's not been at his best but still creating bucketloads of chances, keeping the ball and covering a lot of ground (which is why I find the "lazy" tag annoying). That's basically all he did at Madrid and people were much quicker to praise him. Still plenty of room for improvement from a season I'd class as a sort of 6/10. Hopefully we can afford to rotate him/sub him off early more often this season.

It's weird that a United fan would say that - a team so lacking in creativity even after the arrival of Mata would probably have been a couple of places better off in the table with Ozil.

KPPR, that's a very good point - he had his dip in form in the 2nd half of last season having lifted us on the pitch in the first, but with a proper pre-season, which can be critical factor, as well as some high-quality additions around him, I am positive he will leave his mark on this campaign. I also think criticism of him at the world cup was harsh.

Considering you thought Utd were going to win the champs lge last season Hafi, dont think anybody pays any attention to what you think or believe

The less he tries the more I love him

"he is a creative midfielder who oozes class and therefore doesn't have to strain himself to produce results."

Says who? Several of the best attacking midfielders on the planet work their socks off. Don't think any player in the modern game is exempt from doing the same. I guess it's something we have to live with but it's not something that will ever endear him to many fans.

Germany and Arsenal player Mesut Ozil is to donate his £350,000 World Cup winnings to the children of Gaza, reports the International Business Times.

Ozil is set to give the £237,000 bonus he received for helping Germany win the final, and the £118,000 he received for Germany's semi-final win.

Ozil is languid, but far from flat-footed or slow - he is skilful on the ball, changes direction very quickly, and he carries the ball forward quickly. You wouldn't say he's lightning quick or a powerful runner but he glides effortlessly and covers the ground quickly.

Sherrif - whilst I agree with you that creative players can't get away with being lazy, my point was different - I expect Ozil to work, but I think straining himself to chase back is not in his game and therefore counterproductive. Think of players like Kroos - I think he has a similar attitude to Ozil, he is best when allowed to move forward and pull the strings arther than being shackled by defensive responsibility.

But I think Sanchez's arrival will hopefully take away some of the scrutiny. Ramsey's injury meant that he was only able to pitch in so much, Cazorla's contribution wasn't really that explicit in terms of goals and assists, and Podolski only had, I think, two assists all season. There were only about three players throughout the season who were able to contribute creatively, and for Ozil to be pushed into that crucial role in his first season, when he was still adapting, was a lot to ask. Sanchez should fare better, as I think he's built for Premier League.

Kroos ain't that good behind the striker. Too slow and immobile.

As for Ozil. With the pace we'll be having in the team he'll be killing it next year. Along with Sanchez taking the limelight off him.

Im surprised that Kross is actually only 24

I swear hes been around forever!!!

Was he part of their victorious U21 squad in 2009?!?!

I guess not cos his age.

When evra scored that blockbuster of a goal I thought this is our year

Anyway we are not lacking in creativity, SAF last season we were goal crazy in champions league and premier league.

He probably needs some work with a psychologist cos his confidence looks shot, tbh. Not just for Arsenal. He once stood above everyone for the German side, but he's now just a cog in the wheel. If Reus had come to this World Cup, there's a huge likelihood Ozil would have been benched. However many claim otherwise, Ozil IS operating far from expected levels for club and country and he's become an easy target. Sure, the criticism is often unfair but has does have plenty of foundation. It doesn't help that when he's not playing well, his body language doesn't portray someone that's trying as hard as he can.

He has to work so much harder.

I really rate Ozil but I'm not confident on him next season due to no pre season this season. He'll miss the Community Shield and really think this won't have helped his cause.

People have been underrating Ozil, I think he will be a lot better this season. He's so classy on the ball and is an assist machine. A better striker in front of him and you'd be laughing

Sanchez will be like another Aguero, but will he play on the right or up front?

Ozil is a floater always has been always will, but that mainly down to systems.

When playing for a counter attacking team l have always thought that it didn't really suit him. I think he would be much better playing for a team that plays a bit more possession stuff.

Kinda like Messi he is the sort of player who thrives on getting constant touches of the ball. You can't expect something to happen everytime, but you know something can happen everytime he gets the ball. The more gets it the more likely he is to do something.
