new O'Hara interview

You didn't put a question mark Perton. I'm sure he assumed it was a statement, like the rest of the world.

posted on 17/7/14

Yes. I saw it as a statement, or a rhetorical question at best. Taking it as a question, I would respond that I don't think the club comes out of it at all well. Is it ALL the club's fault? - I'm not privy to what goes on behind the scenes, but I do suspect that the club (which is bigger, and more powerful than any player), had decided that O'Hara was to be frozen out, by fair means or foul. Perhaps a strategy to move him on swiftly. If that was the tactic - it's backfired. O'Hara would like to play. The club can't be seen to lose face, and won't allow that to happen.

I couldn't care less about Danielle, i have seen more than enough of her to draw a conclusion, she is bad news and has ruined his career.

That has directly impacted my football club.

Forgive me for not really giving a shít about hurt feelings

Also Bute, the clubs decision to have him sidelined has proved emphatic with regards to results.

Kenny had a plan as to how he wanted to move forward, and given last seasons success he was proved right.

So you agree that the club has "sidelined' him.

That's a first step to having an open mind about the matter. Thank you.

Next you have to try and conquer your misogynistic attitude towards women.

posted on 17/7/14

nobody disputes we sidelined him?

whats that got to do with him being unable to get fit and swanning around on drinking holidays and his wife leaving him with baby all too often?

Clubs are not interested in him as they are fully aware of the baggage he comes with and the fee he wants despite that baggage.

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME HE WORKED FFS?

JOH turns-up for work, he trains, plays in the U21s and meets the conditions of his contract, Wolfie. You can be sure that if he didn't, Wolves would cancel his contract in an instant.
He can't pick himself to play in the first team.

Another foot in "it" by Wolfie!

posted on 18/7/14

tam and bute have to face the same facts that ohara does
he's paid prem wages
no prem club wants him
a handful of champo clubs may be interested but only at a salary closer to 10k a week than 30k
he knows this, and so do you

the upshot is no wage reduction no play

posted on 18/7/14

I didn't say those weren't facts, but you don't know he hasn't been willing to take a pay cut such as that to move.

Jackett has made it clear that he won't play him, so why would he take a pay cut at Wolves whilst under contract?

I haven't put my foot in anything Wolfie. Just offered a different opinion, something which you regularly struggle to accept. O'Hara meets the terms of his contract, has never refused to play, plays in the under 21s, trains everyday etc. So your allegations of him not working are unfounded. Another faux pas by the Florida buffoon.

But you keep trying to catch people out and make a fool out of them. It's quite funny watching you make a fool out of yourself.

Thank you, VC. You are 100% right. It is the club pulling the strings here. They have signed a contract with the player, and clearly wish they hadn't, hence the "strategy" to drive him out.

Cyp is spot-on. O'Hara can't pick himself to play. However much extra training he is putting in, if the powers that be have decided he is persona non grata, then that's an immovable mountain in my view.

I agree with (most of) what bute has said here and tamwolf's comments above.

I'm not sure there is any evidence of JOH getting boozed up whilst he should have been on duty for wolves. he played regularly in the U21s (quite well at times) and I am certain if wolves thought he was breaching club rules he'd have been fined and/or sacked. just because he is on holiday, doesn't mean he is drinking to excess, or that he is not interested in playing football. it means he is on holiday, like most of the world's population who can afford it. do those who have knocked him for it think that batth, stears, kmac, price et al., haven't been off in the sun since may? or that they have all been tea-total for that period? or is it simply ok to abuse JOH because the press takes his picture doing what the rest of the squad can do in peace and quiet.

on his wages and return to football: wolves agreed a contract and so as a starting point, we must honour that until something changes that suits both club and player. it is simply stupid to suggest JOH or any other player take a pay cut whilst they are at the club. taking a pay cut to go and play at another club is a different matter and something that a lot of players will have done. I suspect the only way JOH will get a loan or transfer is if he agrees to play for far less than £30,000 pw but I have absolutely no knowledge of what level of wage he thinks he needs, or what if anything he has been offered anywhere else. any comments above about £7k or £10k or what blackpool did or didn't offer are speculation, and any claims to be more than that are bull.

the biggest problem for JOH is not wages, it is his long term fitness. however much people think he is just sitting around picking up wages and not caring, the evidence suggests otherwise. he is training, playing reserve team football, and fulfilling his contract. this is a player who has battled back from several potentially career ruining injuries since he first got into spurs side and at no time has he ever come across as a quitter to me. if he'd have wanted an easy life, there are simpler ways than all of the rehabilitation, exercise and pain he's gone through in the last few years, often playing through injuries which he must have known would have serious long term repercussions.

yes, the guy comes across as not the brightest (how many footballers don't?) and yes, I do think wolves are right in trying to move on from the prem years and to find JOH a new club. I think it will be very, very difficult for him to get a decent contract anywhere because of his injury record and I also imagine he is unwilling to go and play for free to prove himself all over again. I think it is foolish for any footballer to value money more than playing (once they have earned above an amount that will see them financially sound for the rest of their lives) but I've never been a pro sportsman so I can't really say for sure how I would feel in his position. for many it is just a job, and that's fine.

the part I disagree with bute about is his suggestions of anything sinister or untoward at the club in the way it has treated JOH.

and I also tend to find the abuse of a woman nobody on here knows in such vitriolic terms to be pretty distasteful. I may not think much of her from some of the things I have seen but to rip into someone for daring to have séx does show a huge underlying misogyny in my opinion.

Good post GB. Exactly what I have been trying to say, only put a lot more eloquently.

Don't agree with me though, Wolfie will think you are starting a feud.

Champions of Ireland - that's an excellent post. Well reasoned and considerate.

Regarding the club - I haven't stated "as fact" that the club has done anything sinister or untoward, just issuing the possibility as a counter consideration for those who haven't been open to that thought. Personally, I DO think the club is a powerful business force, and any one individual isn't going to stand much chance in fighting such an entity, (other than via the courts were they to claim constructive dismissal - although i don't think JOH would want that), and they don't come away from this smelling of roses.

just can't see it bute,

the club/manager decided that it was best not to play certain players and to pick others. we romped the league, breaking all records. seems the club and manager were right.

given the high wages of the players who were no longer required, or in first team contention, it seems reasonable the club would want to move them out of the squad. in most cases it managed that - ward, RJ, doyler, henry all off the wage bill last year, either permanently or on loan.

there's no conspiracy to wreck JOH's life or to treat him so badly that he quits. in fact, he has been treated fine by the club as far as I can tell - they have continued to work on his health and fitness, pay his wages, play him in the U21s so he can attract another club, let him travel to America and other parts for his own benefit when asked, allowed him to go and speak with clubs interested in a possible transfer. the only thing you might question is the very public announcement that the player(s) were surplus...but then it would have been quite obvious anyway when they weren't selected and at least it ended week after week of speculation, allowing the team time and space to get on with winning games and turning the club around.

if the club were making JOH clean the boots or work behind the counter of mr tikka, then I'd say they were victimising him (although just think of JOH's waistline with all that free chicken!). as it is, both club and player are largely doing the right thing and it is the fans or media that are creating most of the furore, on both sides of the argument, based on rumours and guess work.

JOH will leave eventually, the world won't end, wolves will carry on as the greatest club ever

maybe he will be back one day - if we are getting 25,000+ next season there has to be a market for some fine indian cuisine...or mr tikka

I didn't know he'd gone! I used to enjoy queuing for some hot Indian sustenance outside The Fox (or whatever it's called now) by the subway entrance.

tbf I don't know whether he is still going to matches or not - anyone got any news on sightings of mr tikka? in asda maybe?

Mr tikka is alive and well. One of my mates always pays him a visit before the game

The point regarding Jamie and holidays and drinking shows he isn't 100% committed to the cause.

Top athletes do not drink for years as they do all they can to be the best, Jamie is in a hole fitness wise but still doesn't see it as enough reason to actually spend the entire summer looking to fix it.

And unfortunately for him he has a partner who spends plenty of time away, often without Jamie and baby, which in turn does not help his cause at all, it is these distractions that set him back even more than the average footballer.

I think most clubs just don't want to take on somebody on such wages who brings such baggage, and who can blame them.

posted on 18/7/14

cinci,

when was Jamie out getting drunk? and how did he manage to play all those U21 games if he is so unfit? and why does having a holiday show any lack of commitment in Jamie but it is ok for all the rest of the squad?

posted on 18/7/14

He was drinking all day in vegas which led to the publicised 'row in the street'.
Shall we assume they only drunk once or be realistic about it?

And lack of commitment because he is already behind, the new season is coming, he gets paid a fortune, he should be doing literally everything in his power to get himself 100%.
Sigurdarson spent the entire summer last year in Wolverhampton at the training ground by 6am every morning, trying to do everything he could to improve and make an impact, sadly for him it didn't work out, but he was committed.
