Rather we went for Nastasic tbh. Fantastic player in the future.

Nastasic is not gonna happen, City are selling Lescott.

Why don't we just keep verm ffs
----------------------------------------------------------------------
One year left on his contract, looks to have given up at Arsenal and is injury prone. We also can get a new official captain without humiliating him publicly
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And Verm apparently wants to go. I would keep him if Djourou is still an Arsenal player. I can accept Djourou as 4th choice. Not 3rd.

So in my opinion its important to get someone like Smalling or Jones in exchange especially if we are going to protect Mertesacker.

ffs no Jones, anyone but Jones, he has no brain, he just rush to challenges and easily beaten by dribble, he has nothing but aggression and power.

Wenger wanted both smalling and jones, clearly rates them highly

Neither

I cant see any top player choosing the red side of manchester.

Years ago, I would have been told off for arguing with United fans, nowadays they seem to have accepted mediocrity they hardly even raise their voice let alone bother defending their team, times have truly changed

I must admit the united fans over recent years were very smug but things have changed.

A lot of them are fairly realist and you can actually debate with them without it turning in is slagging match

Verm wants to go, no points keeping a player if he wants to leave... good chance to upgrade on a squad player.

Smallings good enough to displace Mertesacker by the end of the season.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I have seen some horrifying stuff on here, but this really has to be the most horribly scary.

Have MUFC no real ambition? This possibility cannot, even in any worst case scenario, be on the cards.

Vermaelan is absolutely awful and that does not even begin to address how both Smalling and Jones are two of SAFs best signings in his latter years.

It is hardly Smalling's fault that he has had to cover for an inept RB in Rafael (if any one should go it should be him - he would actually fit in at Arsenal). Ditto Jones. He has not even begun to have a proper run at the position, in which, I believe, he will turn out to be a phenomena. I actually feel that Phil Jones has the potential to be a genuine star at the club and I haven't felt that way since Ronaldo, RvN and Rooney.

Please, please don't be true

Seriously guys, letting Smalling go for a far worse player would be stupid stupid stupid. Letting Jones go, then I would have to question whether the board have decided to sabotage the immediate future of MUFC.

I want to cry, and please believe this has NOTHING to do with club loyalty or club dislike. It has everything to do with the very real.

Would be a good deal for us if it happened, Smalling is better than Vermaelen.

Yes but not THAT much

Aside from the rafa comment, I agree with all that

I struggle to understand why some have given up on jones considering what he has had to put up with at such a young age. Injuries. Playing out of position

I still feel the guy will be a beast for us

He already is a beast, and no one was more surprised than me. He will really move on with the experience of playing out of position over the past two seasons. Now that Vidic and Rio have succumbed to the passing of time, I can't wait to see the almost perfect combo of Smalling/Jones (and the reliable Evans) from striding on.

Still cannot see why anyone sees any merit in Rafael.

Call me old-fashioned, but the first priority of a defender is to be able to defend.

He can't. And his runs up the wing invariably end up with him rolling about in the opposition half.

Just get the basics right.

Evans, Smalling and Jones are better than the current Arsenal captain. We were first quoted £8million for him in the papers and the price has now gone to £12m. He isn't worth it.

We get Blind and de Vrij instead. We can cover CB, LB for the back and the DM position

Apart from Sanchez, there is no player Arsenal have that I want
