He'll be the only defensive MD we'll have so yes.
Arteta starts over him flamini is 2nd choice
Club have remain interested in strengthening in this area so far too early to make any kind of judgement.

I find this really worrying. I really do believe he needs replacing. So much, that it was more important to replace him with a better player than to buy sanchez.
He shouldn't be but I wouldn't be shocked if he is.

Wenger WONT sign another MD a GK will come in though and that will be it I think.

You seem to be in a more informed position than the rest of us. Why will the club not consider strengthening in this area (DM)?
Diaby will be first choice there for a week before he get's injured.
Diaby is not and never will be a holding player.
I agree, but I still think Wenger will put him htere next to Ramsey as first choice. Two seasons ago neither Diaby or Arteta were holding players but Wenger went with it and it worked beautifully and that was with Cazorla in front. Now he has the chance to recreate that with superior players in Ramsey and Ozil.
What would Stuart Pearce do?
Why will the club not consider strengthening in this area (DM)?
Because we have lots of MD's
I remember us capitulating against Newscastle when Diaby got sent off while playing deep midfield. Diaby may not be a natural holding player but he can dominate.

Other than the aging Arteta and Flamini we have no one (midfielder) on the books who is a proficient ball winner.
Furthermore our midfield is severely lacking in height and thus aerial ability. IMO there is nothing to suggest that the club will not look to address this concern.
I dunno abt that Pearce.
William Carvalho? has been linked.

Yeah heard that the club have scouted William Carvalho on a number of occasions and recently it was widely reported that we offered a structured (payment) offer for him.
Whether there was any truth in the Khedira rumours remains to be seen but IMO it is somewhat premature (WengersNearlyMen™ comments refer) to dismiss the clubs intentions in regard to strengthening in this area.
We'd already be fighting for 4th if we start the season with Arteta as first choice in the DM role.
I would pay close to £30 million for William Cavalho. The Angolan born strongman will improve us ten folds and can cover CB.
Considering Wenger's needed to buy a decent defensive midfielder since Flamini left about 6 years ago I'm not gonna hold my breath this transfer window.
Actually if you look at our last 2 big signings Ozil and Sanchez he has arguably strengthened our strongest positions while ignoring the glaring weaknesses in defensive midfield and up front.
Ramsey and Arteta work well. But we still need a top quality cdm.
Chill people we're buying a midfielder.
Arteta isn't as bad as people make him out to be. Hope he signs a new contract.
Nothing wrong with Arteta's ability. Just not as quick over the ground as he once was.
What would Stuart Pearce do?
Well we are also in desperate need of a world class striker yet wenger aint buying it.
