we still need at least the following

a wingback/full back
a cb
a cm

someone like Blind although not world class would be a decent choice as he can cover every one of those positions, and players like that help you win titles or at least compete for them.

Good shout, I think we have a few "stars" already, improving the squad players is just as important.

of course its a good shout, its me

I don't really like Blind though.....had a good couple of games at the WC then didn't really shine.

Good shout? Do you know how many articles there have been suggesting United buy Blind?

Nope, how many?

And I meant the idea of a squad player who can cover multiple positions and do a good job. Unlike the squad players we currently have

I thought you already had that in Valencia.

posted on 28/7/14

No, Valencia is both useless and has about as inversatile as you can possibly imagine.

You already have too many players who play mulitiple positions...

Valencia, Jones, Smalling, Shaw, Fellaini, Carrick, Fletcher, Kagawa, Young, Rooney

You really need to buy round pegs for round holes, some position specialists.

we dont though, and thats the problem.

Blind fo example can cover 3 positions and be as good in each one, the players youve listed above, other than maybe the odd one are played in positions that they are nowhere near as competent in, and thats the big difference.

Square pegs round holes, you said it yourself.

We need a couple of players who can effectively play 2/3 positions without dropping in quality. None of those players mentioned can do that.

Why don't you just buy two specialist players for every position like City and Chelsea?

What would be the fun in that?

It wasn't that many seasons ago that SAF made Rooney play way out wide left, and deep.

LVG's new wing backs tactic? Meh...

1) LVG doesn't use the same tactic throughout a single game, never mind a full season. So versatility is important.

2) We have a lot of players to get rid of.

3) We have no CL football to think of this season.

4) We'd have to spend around £200m.
