I don't know why it should be a problem, as that's what subs are for, and we have more depth in our subs than Saints do/did.
Starting well would be refreshing for Spurs after last season.
I think Shaw is playing as a wing back this season? Requires a little more fitness than an attacking full back?

Possibly told to say it by Man U/LVG. LVG already coming out trying to undermine Poch today by making out he was Spurs 1st choice....
I think this is more LVG than anything to do with Poch's lack of training. The Southampton players all said last season that training was so exhausting that they mostly just slept throughout the day. That doesn't sound like the lazy sessions that this article is portraying.
It's also worth pointing out that LVG isn't familiar with the Prem so he might train them especially hard which might mean United tire towards the back end of the season. This could reflect badly on United or Spurs really. It's hard to know.
The only thing I've always been a little concerned with is just how much of Southampton's success was down to how blessed they were with talent. When you look at the numbers in transfers, I think our first eleven would struggle to accumulate that kind of money upon any sale. That suggests that Southampton weren't greater than the sum of its parts. It could be that he had a talented squad, and got out of them as could be expected. The other argument is that he made them top players. All the best do. Some of Brian Clough's players were nothing before he turned up.
Most players I have read say that Poch improved them, and give him great credit.
This bodes well.
We also have considerable talent & in depth BUT lets hope our players are open to his ways and open to being improved.
In any event, I see this season being a learning process and players will either be willing/able of being improved or will be moved on.
Luke shaw is a poor mans Danny rose .
Shaw actually stated that he underestimated the change in fitness levels required at United to that of Southampton
I totally refuse to believe that. Southampton played at a much higher tempo in games than United did and I doubt Poch's idea of fitness is any less than United's ideas are
I suspect Shaw's comments are just covering up the fact he isn't yet that fit
They are playing a 3-4-1-2 formation at United for the time being and Shaw is one of the wing backs. The position is different to an attacking full back because there's more to do both defensively and offensively. They will probably run more than any other player in the team and so should be in peak fitness.
When you look at the numbers in transfers, I think our first eleven would struggle to accumulate that kind of money upon any sale.
_____________
Tbh mate, had our players been English I think our starting XI would go for a lot more than the Saints players.
Overpriced and overweight
If we were to sell Vertonghen & Eriksen I'd expect to be getting the same sort of sums that Saints did for Lovren & Lallana

Greatteams, you worried about doing a 'Spurs'?
None of your transfers have really been properly impressive bar Lallana IMO

The media labelled Spurs new signings as flops, they forgot however that most of them spent long periods of last season injured and those that played were utilised incorrectly by the management. Spurs had one of the worst injury lists in Europe last season, this is frequently overlooked and forgotten about.
So it is harsh to label them as money wasted or flops
But the media do not let little facts like that get in the way of their anti Spurs agenda.
It will be interesting to see how the Liverpool squad copes if they accumulate a similar amount of injuries to Spurs did last season.

I still don't think that it is really the same. You look at players who came into your first 11 and then you compare them to what will happen with us and I hope that the continuity will mean that we carry on from last season. Only Lovren and Lallana would have started against Saints. Can may start instead of Lallana now but you're still looking at a pretty settled side.
It's obvious that we have chosen to beef up the squad rather the bring in a couple of superstars. Only time will tell how that works out, I'm pleased with Lovren and Can. A bit meh about Lallana, Markovic and Lambert. This season will be about Sterling and Sturridge.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Really, Cahdli, Chiriches, Capoue were squad players replacing/upgrading players sold, like Parker, Caulker/Gallas, Dempsey
Paulinho was a definite First XI starter as was Soldado.
Lamela was big money but very young and needing time to settle in. If we had kept continuity with the manager and he had better injury record then, like Eriksen, may be he would have had a decent 2nd half of the season
Eriksen was more of a first XI starter compared to Lamela as he is a bit older and more experienced.
Our problem was that injuries at the back meant Chiriches was often thrown in. Sandro injury meant Capoue was needed, who himself was then nobbled by a bad challenge vs Arsenal.
Lamela was slowly introduced, which was the right way to do it but did not impress and got injured.
Eriksen played more and was one of our better players but also took time to settle in.
Soldado was simply starved of service.
Chadli was also introduced over time, with Townsend and Lennon.
I don't think there was too much wrong with the signings or the way they were handled. There were not too many EPL options available in the market compared to this summer when half the Saints squad have raised their stock significantly...and you see how much they cost.
I think Lamela will turn out to be a better buy than Lallana in time and Eriksen already is.
The only one I am disappointed with is Paulinho....truly average.

Not what you said though is it bitter?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It is actually, exactly what he said.
and he is right.
Spurs had more injuries than any other team (45), next highest was Utd (38) and Liverpool had just 19. The av. was 27 injuries.
In terms of days missed through injury, Arsenal were the highest but Spurs 2nd with 1441 which compares with LFCs 997. The av. was 995 days.

Devon, Devon, Devon. Come wading in without knowing what we're talking about.
A) He said in Europe.
B) This goes back to an article that happened a couple of weeks ago. An article where the link that Billy himself supplied proved his claim wrong.
Just turn around and back out slowly. Nothing to see here.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Guessing that if Spurs had the most injuries in the EPL then we will probably will be one of the highest in Europe, especially the major league.
Fact is, whether its europe-wide or not, we were criplled by injuries last term...you were lucky with yours.
