In all honesty we shouldn't be bother what Stevie Me has to say. The man is a fraud

Yeah I laughed it off instantly but nice to hear the boss speak on it.

"You're never too good for Arsenal"
I like this line in particular, we're also proving it more and more

It's pretty possible to do so with Arsenal if he added himself into the equation don't you think?

The bit at the end is brilliant.

That said, I do actually agree with Slippy Me.

If you're good enough to command a £75m fee from Barcelona for your signature you're certainly too good for Arsenal, or any premier league club for that matter.

Barca and Real are the pinnacle. Slippy just worded it so it came across very bitter, even if he is correct.

Hindsight helps your point an awful lot.

At the time Gerrard claims this situation took place there's no doubt Suarez to Arsenal would have been a decent transfer for both the club and player.

I said: 'Don't go to Arsenal'," the Liverpool captain revealed. "I would have been really sad and disappointed to see Luis go to Arsenal. With all due respect to them, I said to him that he was too good for Arsenal."

No not really. Suarez was always going to command a big fee from one of the big two in Spain. It was a matter of when not if.

Going to Arsenal would have only have been good for Arsenal, not Suarez.

How is this bitter? Suarez is a phenomenal player Stevie just said some things to convince him to stay. For me, I can see where he was coming from and he even added the no disrespect bit.

You can't say the season for Arsenal couldn't have turned out a lot better than a more than decent top 4 + domestic cup finish.

People forget how strong we were in the league up until a point where injuries happened and Giroud couldn't buy a goal.

Again very different scenario had Suarez joined

For every footballer especially the Latin ones Barca/Madrid is the pinnacle. But Wenger's legacy had made sure that Arsenal are a pretty exclusive club too despite the barren 9 years.

'to play with him and have a chance to win the Premier League. But it didn't happen, and anyway, Suarez left."
=================================
Load of old bitter ballax from Wenger.
At the time Steven Gerrard was giving this advice to Suarez, it was in the hope Liverpool would reach the top 4, rather than harboring any hope they would win the premier league.
It did happen, they are in the champions league group stages, he did leave, to a much bigger club than Arsenal, and anyway, Suarez left, and Arsenal still are not in the champions league proper yet.
Wenger fail.

Well yeah those 2 clubs are always the best option and I suppose his risk paid off but a player of his standard should have been playing in the CL for the last 2 years now already we could have offered him that before you guys.

But you're only looking at it from the point of one season rather than a career choice. He wanted the big two in Spain. That would still be the case had he gone to Arsenal. So it wouldn't have been a good move for him because he'd still be at a club that cannot match the ambitions of Barca and Madrid, ambitions that a player of his class should be aspiring to.

No team in the prem can really offer what Madrid and Barca can. Hence why the best players in the prem usually jump ship to Spain as soon as they come calling.

I think this is the point Gerrard was getting at because he's seen so many of the prem's top players leave for these two. And knowing Suarez is good enough for them and that they'll come calling he's right in saying he's too good for Arsenal because Arsenal are not Barca or Real.

Yeah Suarez would much rather win stuff with the Spanish giants than with Arsenal or any other club for that matter anyway.

But despite having this knowledge Sanchez still chose to be involved in our situation instead of yours, another world class player.

Speaks volumes for me

Wenger said Gerrard said what he said because he thought Liverpool would win the league with Suarez.
Which is obviously nonsense.
At the time Liverpool were about to start a season, as a club who had finished 7th the season before, 28 points off United.
Gerrard was hoping Suarez would stay to help Liverpool maybe get into the top 4.
He stayed, Liverpool qualified directly for the group stages.
Wengers claim that at that time 'he wanted him (Suarez) to play with him and have a chance to win the Premier League' is obviously nonsense.
