Good luck to him. Hopefully he never forgets the role Bolton has had in turning his career around.

Apparently looking sharp but proved nothing yet. Only played against poor opposition so far. Chelsea etc will be the real test.

Goals breed confidence for a striker & now his team mates will know how he operates. Useful preseason for the lad. How many games he gets in the prem is another matter though.

Vokes, Ings & Barnes are established and he also has Sordell to deal with.. He has a particular style that lends him to be perfect to play with any of the previous mentioned & that could work in his favour.

He's scoring goals and he's ready, so that's the priority for Dyche.

Meanwhile in hot breaking news, Dougie believes we need some strikers to have any chance of competing in the top six.

What makes me laugh more is that he was pleased as punch to get those early summer deals through... Let's not mention that Danns, Trotter, McNaughton and Feeney had already been connected to the club having played for us... So the summer was spent scouting a 4th choice goalkeeper, a Frenchman who's 4th choice centre back & a ledtback he once signed before..

So my question Dougie... What exactly have you been doing all summer???

With such business credentials according to Gartside, I'm waiting for his appearance on Dragons Den asking for a £23.14 investment and a 99% share in BWFC.

I'm out.

Taponxmasday,he hasn't scored against Chelsea yet, Our strikers struggle against port vale - Macc - Rochdale & Tranmere.
A bargain £1-5mil missed ,by Dougie who was in the driving seat at the time ,just who is he trying to impress spending no money at all, Only Gartside.
We may be skint but you still have to gamble if you think a player will make the differance to your season.
The alternative low crowds , mid table , stagnation .

Couldn't have put it better myself. We are already a laughing stock. How far we have fallen so fast!!!!

The one thing no one can blame DF for is a lack of finance. He HAS to be prudent. It's not a choice to miss out on key targets.

posted on 7/8/14

I agree he has to be prudent, no question.

But he's searching for 2 strikers and a winger which he states will put us in the top six..

Therefore, would you suggest he was prudent with his 2 strikers and a winger cash purchases of Davies, Beckford and Hall?

I am not saying he is perfect. Just the ability to buy his first choice players is beyond him and it's not his fault. He is responsible for turning round the Jukes career. It must have been a real kick in the teeth to be told the money is not there to get him permanently.

DF knew the markets and values he should be looking in so did he ? I hope he didn't pin his hopes on PG giving him more.
I needed a new motor. I'd like that nice new car I know the boss would refuse the finance so I didn't even stop to look in the showroom or even mention it. Got out there looking and found myself a bargain instead at a price I could afford, much better than walking to work which would have happened if I hadn't.

Do not be surprised to see Pratley on the team sheet down sarrf

The Jukes market value has vastly changed since last Jan.

Boro would have taken £650k in January. That's a quote from Marc at the Bolton News.

Should the club have not gambled then rather than £400k on Hall who DF says is work in progress..

His infatuation for midfielders and wingers suppresses his absolute need for a forward. £300k on Craig Davies, £700k on Medo and DF didn't risk £650k on the Juke...

That's worth discussing as much as Gartside being rewarded with failure...

Strikers capable of scoring a ton of goals at this level won't come cheap and we can't just haphazardly close our eyes scroll down a list and go "you'll do". They'll want properly scouting etc.

I'd be more worried if Dougie turned round and said "no need for a striker everything's fine and dandy here."

FFP biting some previous big spenders now - Forest selling players over Stuart Pearce's head for example.

Pratley is garbage.

Forest????

They've just spent over £5m on a striker!

posted on 7/8/14

Would you have risked 1.3m and the add on's for Juke in June.
Most would but we didn't. We move on to deadly Doug playing one up top. So we must have players all over the park to chip in with goals. It happens I have seen it a long while ago at Bolton mind.

Having sold 2 players to do so.

This time next year £1.5m for jutkiewicz will look cheap.

"Having sold 2 players to do so."

Hang on a minute! I've illustrated the fact Forest aren't skint & have broken their transfer window! I don't think you can compare them with us!!!

Last Jan there would have been a justified outcry to pay £650k for the Juke. He had scored three goals in years could not get a look in at Boro. It was DF that turned his career around. The only reason he was bought by Burnley was his spell at Wanderers. We can't use hindsight with this.

posted on 7/8/14

Hang on Petrov, if he was that rubbish, why did we sign him on loan!!! - You can't have it both ways... Either he was rubbish or there was clearly something wrong with Boro's style and he would always improve elsewhere...

What were Hall's and Davies credentials for a combined £700k outlay?

What have the scouts been doing this summer.

Danns - Already here
Trotter - Already here
Feeney - Been here
Moxley - DF signed before
Keeper - 4th choice
Frenchy - 4th choice

I'm struggling to see how our squad is stronger than the one that ended the season???

Because from where I'm looking, we look weaker and less in depth....

48 hours to kick off.... Tick Tock Dougie.

posted on 7/8/14

McNaughton - Already been here....

posted on 7/8/14

All makes a mockery of DF saying he wants to play two up top. If that is what he wanted he should have moved himself.

posted on 7/8/14

The fact is Dougie doesn't want 2 strikers up front.
His mate Beckford can't play with anyone else.

posted on 7/8/14

I never said he was rubbish. However from promise at Everton his career had hit the skids. Coming to Bolton seems to have revived that. When we signed him no one was going to pay much for him if anything. We signed him on loan as DF saw something I suppose. He took a risk and it paid off.

For the Juke. He now plays Premier League which last Jan he wasn't getting a game in the championship.
