This seems to be a recurring theme, where people seem to think we need to massively reduce our squad, as we have no European football. The fact of the matter is that we've already significantly reduced squad and whilst there are still a fair few there lucky to be at the club, I don't think reducing the numbers much furtehr is all that wise, for a couple of reasons.

Unless we buy to replace these guys, our achilles heel of injuries will almost certainly lead to disaster if we don't have a squad to cope. As it stands, we've left ourselves far far too short at the back, without decimating otehr areas.

Anotehr failing in the logic of reducing numbers drastically is that whilst we are out of Europe this season, we would liek to be back in it then. So what happens in that situation? We'd have a squad taht numerically would be nothing like able to cope with the number of games. So we'd wind up having to buy large numbers of players, they's need to gel and we'd probably struggle. Nobody seems to be considering this in their short termism when lookign at the numbers we need in our squad.

Sorry for the many many typos in that post but I hope you got the gist of what I was saying.

Players id be ok with leaving - cleverley, fellaini, anderson, nani

Players i fear might leave - kagawa, hernandez

Really dont wana see Hernandez go, no mayter if hes not involved on a game, when that balls in the box hes dangerous, his movement is probably the best ive ever seen in a striker at OT, outside the box and on the ball he isnt great but hes a constant goal threat if playing!

merrysupersteve, I agree we don't want to slash the size of the squad. But there is the issue of imbalance and areas where we need to upgrade. I wouldn't be amazed to see something like 4 players leave: e.g. 4 from Fellaini, Nani, Kagawa, Anderson, Hernandez, making way for a winger and a CM.

Think Afro man will be gone buy the weekend.

If Afro man leaves, I'll buy the beers, but don't think I can afford to buy a whole weekend.

vidal situation is really strange.. Chilie Coach says we want him, juve say no bid, Woodward says we can offer record breaking money (i assume he had vidal in mind) uk journos saying who are close to united camp united got no interest in him, juve owner says wants to keep vidal but will sell at right price, and vidal has made no commment.. something must be going on behind the scences?

I don't think we need to reduce the squad, just "swap" players. We have too many 10's & not enough CB's. So yes, we do need to ship some out (if LVG doesn't see a future for them) but only if we get replacements in.

Obviously we'd all like to see a few youth players promoted as well.

Merry - I don't think players will be moved on solely to reduce the squad size. They will be moved on because they are not deemed good enough for a place or in Hernandez case he may want a move ( I hope not as need 4 strikers) reducing the squad size will just be a bonus, Allowing LVG to fill it out again in jan or next summer with the right players.

For me Anderson, nani, cleverly should go plus Fellini if he is not in LVG plans. I would have said fletcher before his impressive come back this summer.

Suppose it all depends if clubs want them and we can get their replacement in.

Eds certainly in for a busy couple of weeks

Building a squad to cope with Europe is not easy and cant be done in one summer. Just ask Spurs. I'm sure Liverpool will also qualify this come the end of the season. Dismantling the squad now can have detrimental effects next season. Much better to live with disgruntled players with less game time for a season.
