Thoughts?

You need to stop buying youth players, and focus on developing the one's already in your system.

Clifford just wasn't good enough, he'll go on to play in the Football league, not every player we bring through from the academy has a divine right to the first team. however I do agree our youth development needs to improve a lot, both for academy graduates and the youth players that we sign for a small fee after they've turned 16.

I'm not suggesting that all of your players deserve to go the 1st team (same as most clubs really) but paying multi millions for 18/19 year old's is not "developing youth".

my father in law, who is a football coach & CFC fan, spoke a lot about Billy Clifford, partly because he is from my town and he trained him, from what i heard, i thought he had a bright future at CFC, but i guess not.

The last real youth player we brought through our ranks is John Terry and that's a good 14 yrs ago now. We should really have one a year who is a squad player.

I am not expecting superstars every year from our academy. However, it would be nice if we could put together a youth team for the carling cup that would at least make progress through the rounds.

No pressure at West Ham and Southampton.

Our youth system is steadily improving, we are producing talented players.

If you look at our success in the youth competitions over the last few years it evident our system is improving.

Hopefully with managerial stability slowly players will get through, this season will show the improvement .

What people fail to recognise is that the players which do not make into the first team, do go on and have successful footballing careers in various divisions.

Finally our youth policy is successful from a financial perspective it is playing a significant role in our ability to meet the FFP rulings.

Least Southampton have got £70 million to spend. But cause everyone knows they have the money all their bids for players will have to be increased.

No, what about the fringe players in the first team squad

If the youth are good enough they will play

The wont play if they are half decent because at the very top level, half decent isn't good enough

Citing shampton and West Ham is irreivent as their is less pressure on them.

Your youth tean is good, you just dont play anyone

Due to the 'instant results' culture we now have in football, it is very difficult for young players to come through at clubs like CFC, they may have a young bright midfielder in their ranks but when someone like Cesc is available, they'll buy him and that young player gets pushed down the pecking order. Vicious cycle.

Its a bit of a weird one, teams bring through so many players from youth who have never won a single competition at youth level and they become prem players. Our youth teams over the last few years have won competitions(so you'd think they would be the very best) yet none have entered the first team. Ake has played what, twice?

Do we really want our own Andros Townsends playing ?

Not even West Ham have a top youth set up anymore. Tomkins and Nolan were the last two and they've been around years.

Southampton will never repeat what they have just achieved. Yes they will probably churn out the odd top player. But not all at once like they just have.
