Boro are a good side, this is an excellent result and an excellent performance, one that will build confidence through the team.

Oh Lord, how happy I am

Hock's winning me over. His interviews eclipse Colin's and Brian's (saying that not too difficult to do).

At half-time I ewtime I wrote on here that we were on the verge of somehting good, with Bellusci and Berardi coming in. Unfortunately, my phone didn't upload it.

Thought we were excellent today.

Defensively as a team we were great. When Byram caught forward, we had someone running back to cover his spot. Warnock played in tandem with the CBs, Pearce and Cooper were solid, and the midfield covered back. And we were calm in defence instead of panicking to get rid of it.

An excellent performance. Soaked up the Boro pressure - who were strong and committed and defensivley very difficult to get through and with good front players - in the first half, and we essentially controlled the last hour.

This is just going to get better.

Ajose was excellent - keen runner, holds up well, passes simple and also technically well, the pass to Sharp in first half an example.

This season will be very interesting. There will be downs, but I think we will have many more ups.

Cheers Highland A good day to be a Leeds fan. I'm slightly inebriated having consumed a bottle of Glen Moray with my mate!!!

MOT!

Long, totally agree. I wrote earlier how much Ajose impressed me.
I'm hoping at some point we see Berardi at right back and Byram move to right mid. Keep Warnock on left.
Add Bellusci to Pearce and Cooper in middle of back line. I reckon Bellusci might enable us to get rid of Austin completely.

Cheers H! Not been posting much as I've been watching on my ipad at work

Great 3 points. I would have settled for 1 against a good Midds team but their keeper gave me hope as the game went on. He was their weakest link by far.

No save for Silvo but what he had to do he did calmly and well.

I dont understand all the critiscism of austin. Fair enough he's not the best and can be erratic, but his heart and desire are top notch and he's always there trying to break up play. The stats show he makes a big contribution to the team, i think last season he was statistically our best midfielder. Even if he doesn't start i would 100% have him in the squad. In a battle like it was today would you rather have him on your side or against you?

Really pleased for Billy Sharp, i thought it wasn't going to be his day after he missed the header.

Austin is great at breaking it up but needs to learn how to complete a simple pass. So many times he wins it but then gives it them straight back.

I like him. I like his attitude and aptitude but he needs to learn fast or Tongue will take his place in front of the back four. His passing is much better and he had an assist today as well.

How can someone who gives the ball away so much not be criticised?

posted on 16/8/14

Not a great performance, but great to get the win and good to see them put a shift in. Boro can count themselves a bit unlucky but hey.

New boys:
Sharp, good touch, worked hard, impressed with him.
Cooper, bit of a lees performance looked good, but messed up for disallowed fils and caught ball watching a bit
Bianchi. I saw him on the pitch but not sure he was actually playing
Silvestri, good to see him come for crosses, handling looked secure, couple of trademark dodgy clearances!
Ajose: bit peripheral but some nice touches
Doukara, can't make my mind up, some nice touches some clumsy ones, looks a bit fragile for such a big lump!

Austin is a poor player. Sorry. Stats can be turned any way you want. In an improving side, he's the next one to lose his place. MC will have seen that.

The way people exaggerate on here though you would have thought he gives the ball away every time. He doesn't. Im trying to find the link that showed last seasons stats for the team and he had the most tackles and highest pass completion amongst others.

Im not saying he doesnt mess up, im saying hes nowhere near as bad as people make out and contributes well to the team.

Every time he lines up to shoot the corner flag braces itself.

He slows down play and he makes the wrong choice (and more often then not that choices to shoot and miss massively) far more than he does the right one.

He is too limited, too uncontrolled and too much of a liability to push this team forward.

I'm not an Austin fan. Far from it, but I thought he did some stuff well today. Broke up play, some good interceptions, It was offset by the usual smattering of wayward passes (not the only guilty party) and some clangers in dangerous positions. I 'd rather he wasn't in the team but I've seen him play worse.

I thought he did OK but is still probably our weakest link this season. You never know though - some good Hock coaching might change that

I like him but he does seem a little limited with his distribution. I wouldn't get rid though. He can do a job for us.

I liked the way Billy showed off his torso to the fans as if to say... "Take a look at this body, fit or what"

Austin did ok in the 2and half, but was lethargic in the first. He kept Tomlin so quiet in the 2and half Boro had to Sub him. He may not he Yaya but he is good at breaking up play.

If u recorded the game , watch the 2and half and watch him keep Tomlin out the game. He does need competition.

You also have to remember that like any anchor man, he needs movement ahead of him, because as u saw he was often winning the ball then faced with a wall of high sitting defenders and no1 running behind.

He made at least 3 crucial tackles in that game, outpaced Adomah!!

Not as bad as folk are saying, but also not a world beater. (That brum game aside)
