I was thrilled when we signed George Thorne. I do not feel anything over this signing. We will see how he does.

McClaren has a policy of covering all positions in the event of injuries and suspensions so I see why he has signed Shotton.

The only postion we don't have cover for is Martin's. Leon Best doesn't appear to have the ability. Any decent forward in the Championship wants to be playing first team football not sitting on the bench so it is the hardest position to fill.

Saw Martin was chosen for Scotland ahead of £11M McCormack and more than £12M rated Rhodes. Not bad for a freebie.

I understand and agree VC10. I know he was highly regarded a couple of years ago but went of the radar. Was at Wigan for the send half of the season I understand.

He's regarded as both Defender / Midfielder and Right Back, Right Midfield. So I am curious as to where it is he will play?

He's obviously joined to play first team matches so will he be competing with Christie or Keogh?

Buxton's struggling at present but I'd have Whitbread as his replacement given he's a left footed player. I wonder where he's going to fit in?

Decent signing this - centre back competition, right back cover and midfield cover all in one.

The poor man's Greg Halfords but still... beggars can't be choosers.

I'm quite happy with this signing. No, he's not as good as GT (but then none of us knew how good GT was before he arrived.)
I think what Shotton offers is solidity and versatility. He's played a fair few prem games and not embarrassed himself, so should cope with our level comfortably.
Loan with a view to perm makes total sense - trial him first and, as he's out of contract at the end of season, sign him up IF he proves good enough.

A Stoke fan told me he rates him... Meant to be very solid. Just fell out of favour with Hughes.
He can deliver a better throw in than Ward's set pieces!
