Don't want De Jong
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why not? I know he's not the most glamorous player but he's a very effective deep midfielder. Keeps it simple, strong tackler. Surely a decent short term option for £10M?
I'd definitely take de Jong right now - Only 29 years old and can definitely do the dog work in the middle of the park.
We should be signing de Jong regardless of Whether we sign Vidal or not. He is one over very few experienced DMs that could come in an slot in to our team and have a big impact straight away.
Surely at less than £10m (linked article says £8m) we should get him whether we get Vidal or not. With the dross we have in midfield, he'd be worth it even as back up.
Faran, you beat me to it lol

Far superior that Fletcher, Carrick and Cleverley in that position.
No issues from me.
I felt numb watching those two yesterday, they bring nothing to the table, that may be okay for clubs with no ambition but it's not okay for this club.
De Jong would add much needed physical presence in the team. And it would hopefully stop Fletcher and Cleverley being paired together in midfield again.
When LvG mentioned being able to sign someone in 24 hours... I think he meant the Dutch boys.
I'm sure he sounded them out long ago, and knows it would be a case of agreeing terms with the club in question.
Not overly fussed by Blind, but would be happy with De Jong.
De Jong is world class you clowns. Stop acting like kids in a shopping mall. He is far better than any midfielder we have including Andre Herrera. Perfect signing imo if the Vidal deal doesnt go through
btw, the Clevs and Fletcher posts are getting yawn worthy.
Herrera looked just as shíte the week before. This sort of thing tends to happen when you have a new manager, new tactics, new formation and 11-12 injuries. Give them a break and see how they get on in a few months, they are happy squad players... We need players like that.
As many have mentioned, De Jong, or a player if his I'll probably should be a target regardless of whether we sign another midfielder.

He played pretty well in the second half until LVG had a brain fart and took him off for Fellaini.

Agreed
Same old players get the blame
No midfield dominated yesterday. Our tactics were just abysmal and we were poor from keeper to striker
Slow pedestrian rubbish all over the pitch, not just midfield
Clevs isn't good enough to be first choice for United but let's get real here. Our first choice pair were both injured, as were fellaini and Anderson
We all also know we need another cm in the squad
That would make Clevs about 5th or 6th choice
Easy target for me to make as a scapegoat for an all round poor team performanceu
Macca
What got me yesterday was us playing with five at the back, against Sunderrland.
Really bad players for me yesterday.
RVP, Rooney, Young, Fletch and Cleverley.
I'm still holding out hope, albeit a very faint hope that we move for Vidal.
If that doesn't happen, I would happily take Nigel de Jong and even if we did do the unthinkable and sign Vidal, we could still do with NdJ IMO.
I'm yet to be convinced by Daley Blind. I don't think he was as good at LB at the World Cup as some people have made out. I've also heard quite a few people who've watched a lot of him stress that he is not a good enough LB and I've not seen enough of him in midfield to properly judge him although I didn't think he was very good against PSV yesterday.
As many have mentioned, De Jong, or a player if his I'll probably should be a target regardless of whether we sign another midfielder.
Bless me. Reminds me of how fellaini was better than what we had including cleverley and Fletcher. Not sure how many will pick him above them now.
All these presumptions made on strong biases against what we have is probably the most exhausting thing about ja606. De jong was in this for a good while and no one said a word as to how fantastic he is as a player. Many called him red card threat, dangerous player bla bla. Now he is the bees knees.
People need to calm down.

Nobody gets any credit for me vc.
It's like everyone was scared of the ball
Tactically, that was worse than anything I saw under moyes. 11 individuals that didn't seem to have the first clue. No teamwork, no pace, negatively all over the pitch.
It was frankly woeful to watch
Rooney van persie januzaj mata Valencia etc should be scaring the chit outta the opposition. Sunderland barely had to break sweat.
Wel'll be ten point off 4th within a few weeks unless we see some huge changes
I'm getting bored of hearing this 3 month thing now
Did pochetino need 3 months? Did Martinez last season?
These players need to start performing now

Playing a back 3 is not Even a defensive formation if done right. Juve plays it and hull I think does the same. They dominate possession and attack with great verve. We are just not getting the formation right ergo what lvg has been saying about system. I think for 20 mins in the second half they key thing for it to work started happening, central defenders started pushing the ball into the space and pulling out the opposing midfielders and shields. Space was created and young found himself in great positions only to faff the final ball over and over. did not help the the front 3 was not really holding up or forcing the defence out of positions with good runs, hold up play all those other things they need to do other than scoring.
For me the team just looks scared and out of sorts. Lvt will show how mettle by getting them out ut as soon as possible. We saw how good this attack can be in preseason, I dont think Swansea or Sunderland are that great. Just met us at a time when we are at our lowest.
With basically one decent winger on this team, a back 3 really is our only resort.
Would definitely take de jong whatever
