Q:Valencia knows that you wont continue?
A: I had a chat with the president, and with my agent and he knows what I want," "but I told my agent that my mind is here and that I left in his hands to do what he needs to do"
Ooooh hope we go for the full buyout clause and the VAT with this I don't think the fans will take him back at this point.
I understand you're upset Wump, but it's not that hard to understand him if you try to look at it unbiasedly. Valencia are trying hard to make their way back into the uper tiers of European football, but still have a lot of issues and can't really offer the same kind of stability (nor, of course, the wages) at that level that other clubs can. Even if you talk United, they missed out on European football for the first time in decades and immediately got themselves back into the mix because they have financial resources pretty much on tap.
It's perfectly reasonable for the guy to want to grasp the opportunity to play for a side like this with both hands, especially considering his age and the possibility that this sort of chance to come round twice.
It's annoying because he was such a key player for you last season, but I think his ambitions are totally legitimate.
just reading the otamendi thread on the man u board
i really want to psot a few comments but can't
My word! I had a huge reply for you ioag but I lost it somehow.
That's okWump, I'm sure you were right.
peks, it's just ill-disguised envy.
I lost it again
The gist was the problem is the way he is trying to get his move. The club should dig its heels and demand the full BOC. It will give Lim's project a lot of credibiltiy and send the messagethat "we no longer need to sell our best players."
I get you, Wump - though I don't really think it's realistic for Valencia right now to think they can compete with the wealthiest clubs. You'd be foolish imo to turn someone down who offered you €40-45M, especially if it's not another Spanish club.
Btw, there have already been rumours here that Madrid are interested too, but I really can't imagine us splashing that sort of cash on a CB. Over a 4 or 5 season contract it would simply work out cheaper to meet or come close to Ramos' wage demands.
Why would it be foolish? We sell him when we don't need to and we are caught in the vicious cycle of anyone we sign knows he is only there to raise his profile and then leave for pastures greener. That way we will never have a competitive team. Time to tell the sharks to go feck themselves imo. We have suffered from them for too long when we didn't have a choice. That era is behind us now.
connor is a weirdo, he used to actually discuss things properly but now he just seems to post to antagonise people properly.
Wump, to be honest, I don't think just because Valencia are more stable financially that the era of them selling their best players to the highest bidder is over.
As ioag says, Valencia don't have the means to compete with the financial elite, so it stands to reason that the players, and club, will accept huge offers from them if they come their way.
I understand that it doesn't reflect well on the project, however, it's not as if Valencia are going out and signing the cream of the crop anyway. They'll still be an attractive proposition to players in the tier below if they can reastablish themselves as a CL club, much like Atleti have done in the last couple of years.
No one is talking about competing with the big boys but having to sell at a lower rate than our valuation. A formal offer hasn't even been made yet and he is already using the agent to stir up §hit. Totally unacceptable and it is why Salvo released the statement he did. Like I said in my first comment today, you want a move? Fine, talk to the club and try to work something out not throw your teddies around when an offer hasn't even been made.
And if a bid hasn't been made why are you talking about selling at a lower rate than your valuation?
Let's be honest, if we want him we'll match your valuation because we are mugs in the transfer market. So I wouldn't worry about it.
Also from those comments it seems he's spoken to the club and is trying to work something out.
You seem like the one throwing his teddies out of his pram because he wants to leave, not Otamendi.
Wump, "need" is very relative. I reckon it would be foolish because for that money you could buy yourselves at least 2 players who are of a high enough standard to improve your chances of establishing as a CL side.
Even in today's market, do you seriously think Otamendi can be considered a €50M CB on the back of one (very good) season? Looking at his career stats, it looks as if he's never even been first choice in the Argentinian or Portuguese leagues ffs, and he's 27 years old.
I understand United have been splashing silly money the past couple couple of seasons, and from that point of view it makes perfect sense for Valencia to play hardball, but if there really were €40-45M on the table you'd be fools not to take them, as I said earlier.
What a stupid comment! What would you call his agent stiring up §hit a few weeks ago?
Darren, tbh I just thought conor was taking the píss and I played along with the stereotypes. I enjoyed it.

ioag, yeah he does it all the time.
Wump, but you are complaining about his comments today and telling him to do what the comments give the impression he's doing.
But you do get easily wound up by comments from players, agents and pundits. I don't see what the big deal is really. This is how football is.
It might be a matter of perception but to me we rather keep him than lose someone of his quality for 40m and replace him with someone of lower quality. That is why we dont need to sell him unless we have to i.e his clause is met. Every other Valencia fan will tell you the same thing for sure.
