The only genuine defender who would suit a 3-5-2.
This is why, if someone told me van Gaal doesn't want him, I'd half believe it.

The team just looks devoid of any confidence, I mean none of them are the greatest players in the world, but they are in no way as bad as they have looked this season
--------------------------------------------------------------------
I said last night, it was like watching zonal football at times. Players were miles from each other, hardly ever an outlet. MK were shadow marking passing routes with ease and intercepting passes
We wernt functioning as a unit, players were running away from each other, nobody seems to want the ball, no triangles, no one two's, no clever passing moves, a lack of anyone wanting to help the cf's in attack. No urgency, no pressing (something they did far better than us)
I could go on and on. It's worse than it was under Moyes up to yet
Melts and VC summed it up best earlier. Egostistical coaching
LVG got a jigsaw with a few pieces missing and instead up just fixing the missing pieces, he's srambled up the jigsaw and started it up again
Think he needs to move away from 3-5-2 for the time being tbh, he's got it wrong so far, hopefully the signing of Di Maria will encourage him to switch to 4-2-3-1/4-3-3

I hope so too but not holding my breath on that
It's early days of course but man we have had a disastrous start to the season so far
Managers always like certain players more than others, perhaps he has just taken a dislike to Rafael for whatever reason.
He seems to like Valencia anyway
I'll give him the season to turn it round, it may get worse for a few weeks before it gets better, also need to remember that our 4 new signings have so far played 60 minutes between them, so need to wait until they all play and see of they fit into the philosophy

We have games we should be winning coming up
If this continues against lesser sides with the likes of Herrera Di Maria Rooney RVP Mata etc then questions are going to be asked
We arnt the only team to be fielding new players
We haven't fielded any new player yet apart from an hour of Herrera

Talking about when we do Mex
Even then, the players we have played should have been performing miles better than they have
Last night was 100% the fault of the manager. He picked the team. He picked the formation. He picked the tactics.
Any news on Rojo's work permit?

Well, if true, it is hardly surprising as such. More surprising is why it has taken so long. There were rumours that David Moyes (a defender in his playing career remember) had seen right through him. Mind you, these are only rumours. However, if true then it is a positive statement of intent by LvG.
Of course the OP could be on, what some here refer to as, 'a wind-up'.
There is no "puzzle" as such regarding Rafael. LvG, if he is as good as some make out, should have no trouble coming in, looking at what makes the team tick or not, and would not take too long to spot that there is a fundamental flaw in putting a lightweight, bog-average, right-winger in as a fullback.
Even if SAF was still manager he would have had to have conceded that he had it wrong and just move on. He was no moral coward, and was always prepared to acknowledge that sometime he got it wrong.
It's nothing personal against the guy, he was bought in for commercial purposes alone and it failed, not his fault. Moving him on will allow him to find a nice niche as a right winger in a Mediterranean league where he may repair his record.
Thanks but no thanks, not from a club that has aspirations (or at least should have).

I wondered when you would show up

i get a bad feeling about LVG and actually think he could be worse for Utd than Moyes.
what Moyes did was repairable, however, LVG is the type of guy to cause a shítstorm, and just walk away if he doesnt get what he wants.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
you've nailed it in one sentence. DM wanted to prove himself and obviously didn't succeed (in the time given). LVG feels he already has proven himself and will walk, once he realises the mess is irreparable.
Rafael is a very good player. Just two seasons ago he was considered to be the best player on the team - apart from RVP. Last year he struggled with injury and his form was further hindered by the poor play of virtually the entire team around him. When he gets a chance, I am sure that he will pick up where he left off two seasons ago. The only question about him is his discipline, not his talent.
I think it may be a case that LVG knows his injury record and doesn't want to risk him until he is 100% ready in case he picks up a niggling injury that will put him out again which can often happen. Also there is the whole fitness issue we had with Shaw, LVG wants his wing backs to last 90mins, maybe Rafael is working up to that before he is brought in.
One annoying thought though is that the Rafael -ribery incident was when LVG was at Bayern. Maybe that experience has put doubt in LVGs mind and he doesn't trust/like Rafael.
Rafael should be back in the starting line-up soon.
