Would rather see Hernandez leave myself.
Then again, I'd hope to see young Wilson promoted to the first team. He actually looked a goal threat when he came on midweek, unlike Hernandez and Welbeck.
Welbeck is a clueless donkey who couldn't cut it at Championship level. He may have scored at a deceptively respectable minutes:goals ratio when actually played in the centre but that's irrelevant to the fact that he is a centre forward who can't score goals.
That's how it's supposed to go, isn't it?
Personally, I like him and I think he should stay, particularly ahead of Hernandez.
I agree, but I think that Welbeck needs to leave for his own progression. There is no point him playing second fiddle for another couple of years. And to be honest, Wilson looks like a real prospect anyway.

HE IS THE DANGER NOW!
Sell Hernandez and have WIlson replace him in the squad.
If as suggested we are looking to offload both Hernandez and Welbeck with just Wilson moving up the pecking order, it might be another indication that we are looking more to 4-3-3. We don't need so much cover at centre forward as when we are playing 5-3-2.
Don't care if he goes. The main argumentsfor keeping him are "he's still young" (he isn't taha young), "he's a local lad" (irrelevant), "he man marked Xabi Alonso well 2 years ago" (not what I look for as a primary attribute of an attacking player).
Welbeck needs to leave for his own sake. The guy isnt a United standard striker because he's not been given the game time up front in his younger years to become one.
I fully believe that in 2012 had we not bought RvP, Welbeck would have had a good season carrying on from his previous one. But this being United, we can't afford to take chances of our strikers so Welbeck has missed out.
He needs to go somewhere and be first choice every week and I'm certain we'll see the real him. The kind of striker us fans will run letting go but also realise that we never would have seen here had he remained someone with limited first team striker starts.
As for life after RvP... It's a paradox. People will say give Welbeck game time but because we bought RvP and because he starts every time when fit, Welbeck is not progressing enough to be trusted to start every week if RvP leaves.
Maybe Welbeck is happy to sit on the bench most weeks at United but if he stays we may never see how good he could really be.

They are not the main arguments. There is one main argument and that is that when played in his proper position as a no.9, he is actually pretty good. Certainly a great 3rd choice option for that position.

None of those would be my main argument, although I do think it's also a bonus to have a core of local players in the side if they are good enough.
My argument is that he is one of only a few attacking players with have with the pace and strength to effectively press from the front and offer the kind of movement that creates opportunities for the team. He has shown glimpses of real quality and players tend to deliver that more consistently as they move into the second half of their twenties. Personally, I think he could be the kind of player that has been missing from our attack since the decline and departure of Saha. (And the opening 2-3 months of the 2006-7 season with Saha fit and complementing Ronaldo and Roney is probably the most thrilling attacking football I remember us playing.) I think Welbeck will be of similar quality.

i consider you constantly trying to put a positive spin on welbecks poor ability trolling tbh.
Hugely talented player. Pacey, strong, good football brain. Needs to regain confidence with his finishing but otherwise has it all. Considerably better option than Hernandez and will do a job anywhere. He will shine at his next club and we'll all be frustrated at why we let him go.
Barely scores, barely assists, barely hits the target. trips over the ball a lot, awful control and runs the ball out of play a lot.
the guys one attribute is his defnsive game, thats not rlevent for a striker.

Even if we agreed that Welbeck isn't good enough for United, I'd never treat one of our own players - and one who has grown up in the club, been a model professional, scored winners in crucial games - with that kind of contempt. He has contributed a lot more to Manchester United than your moaning ever will, Stretty.
