Money rules in English football. Seel the shirts, sell the magazines and the newspapers, and all those products. Rooneys face is on everything, to drop him would cost billions, and that's all England is now, a business. Why do you think the 'yes man' Roy was chosen as manager? Why do you think 'Arry never got the job, or Brian Clough? because they would have picked teams to win games, and nothing else. Why did Fabio Capello leave? Because the FA told him who his captain had to be.
Even if you believe rooney is all that at International level, you must see what's wrong with the English FA. Thier next game at Wembley will be the lowest attendance there ever, people arent fooled anymore, and making their poster boy a captain wont change that.
----------------
This alludes to it. Who exactly will it costs billions to drop him? Because it's certainly not any of those companies.

Don't come up with ludicrous reasons as to why Rooney won't be dropped and then move the goal posts.

It wouldn't cost anyone billions for Rooney to be dropped by England and if you believe that you're beyond help.

United being crap is an irrelevance to your stupid claims.

Brands are worth huge sums of money. The FA are are a part of the whole thing, because they cash in on the brand, along with everyone else. If you deny this you dont understand capitalism
I am stating they are sticking with him for financial reasons, not footballing reasons. You are free to argue otherwise, but I point to the fact that in over 12 years in an England shirt he has been nothing more than average, and has only scored ONE goal when it really counted.
I cant simplify it any more than that.

Nobody said the FA aren't part of that. But you've made a ludicrous claim that it will cost billions to drop him - conveniently ignoring the other marketers dream, Beckham, who was dropped and didn't cost billions - which makes both claims facking stupid.

In those 12 years in an England shirt he's also the top scorer for England. So taking that one statistic, which is bad of course, to try and make out he's only in there because of marketing - plus ignoring his club form, which is massively influential in the team selection for England - makes you look really facking stupid.

Rooney isn't in the England team because he's a brand, he's in the England team because he's been the best striker, bar Owen, for England in the last 12 years.

Stop swearing and getting all emotional. It's opinions, my opinion is rooney is an overated player who now nothing more than a cash cow.
Beckham was the golden boy once, but he could actualy play. Being a Man U player always helps, simply because of commerce, yet again. Once he left England as a club player he couldnt be 'sold' in the same way by the FA at least. I do believe at that time he was dropped for football reasons though, reasons I disagreed with, he should have stayed in the team.
The FA have changed since those days though, they are much more run as a business these days. They lack guts and are not open to new ideas. They pick a yes man, and an old one at that who has never won anything, to pick the same old boring team, safe names, predictably safe captain, and the results were the same as ever. No, they were worse than ever. An FA run for footballing reasons only would do like the germans did, rip up the old ideas that failed, be brave and start from scratch. New young manager, new ideas, young players, new tactics. Oh we laughed when we thrashed em, didnt we? as they were rebuilding, but whose laughing now?
One thing for you - do you HONESTLY think rooney will lead England to some kind of glory?
He is past his best, he is tainted with the years of embarrassing failure and that will rub off on youngsters. We should have dropped most of the old ones and blooded the young uns in the world cup. They would have been beaten, but so what? they would have learned together, and would have formed the nucleus of a future team. With a young manager of course.
Again, when it mattered, rooney bottled it. ONE goal means he wasted his England chance, maybe he never cared, thats how I see it anyway. Why do you care anyway? if your happy with his performance at your club, fine! Millions of others think he should be dropped, and I agree with them.

ONE world cup finals goal in 12 years.

Stats dont always lie. Even Scholes was saying he should be dropped before his last flop. Money rules in English football. Seel the shirts, sell the magazines and the newspapers, and all those products. Rooneys face is on everything, to drop him would cost billions, and that's all England is now, a business. This is your post Tyke, you said to drop him would cost billions in a conversation about the England team and his role in it.

It is quite frankly the most ridicolous comment ever made on these forums!!

As for that last post there's so much goal post moving it's untrue.

The Beckham one is the best. Apparently Beckham couldn't be sold the same way for England because he left the country (rubbish), but that was for footballing reasons, and finally the FA have changed since those days.

This is called twisting things to suit your agenda. And that agenda is ludicrous.

Still trying to twist words and pick on things of little relevance?
Proof. Your 'greatest English player' of the moment..rooney..remind me again just how many golas he has scored this season? This wonderful genius! This leader of men who is captaining a side who cant beat Burnley ffs! Well? How many glorious victories has Rooney led man U to since being made captiain?
How many goals has he scored?
ANSWER TO BOTH QUESTIONS -- ZERO, ZILCH. NONE.

SEE? cold, hard facts.
As a player, as a captain and as a striker he is SHEITE!!!
Get over yourselves and stop your creepy little man crush on Shrek, it's EMBARRASSING.
