It's not about "maximum homegrown or academy" - just one or two would be nice.
It's what United have always been about and people are feeling, quite rightly, slightly uncomfortable with our Man City/Chelsea/Real Madrid approach this window.
We lost our identity the moment SAF retired, because he was our identity and he was our philosophy.
I think what your talking about is selling out the clubs traditions and identity for success and glory.
I want us to get the best players and compete with the top teams but marry that with the ideas of Sir Matt and SAF, we don't have to go all one way, there is a middle ground.
I think the only player people are a tad annoyed about is Welbs, he's deemed not good enough for us but is deemed good enough for Arsenal who are currently better than us.
and re: your comment "go fack off to support West Ham/Aston Villa" - you (I guess?) started supporting Utd during the times of using many homegrown/academy players so what's so wrong with that mentality now? In the same vein as your comment why don't YOU fúck off and support Chelsea or City? My guess is that you would had you started following football in the past 5-6 years - and our lives would be better for it.

Ironically Van Gaal has probably given more debuts to academy players in his short term than Fergie and Gollum did in the last 2 years

The quality is not great atm but saying that has Van Gaal not beeing playing Blackett near enough every game since pre-season? What about James Wilson? surly if Welbeck stayed he would of lost out? We also have Adnan and James in our side now and Pereira. So clearly Van Gaal is given young youth talent a chance. Welbeck is not young anymore and he forced the move to Arsenal. Fair play to him because he should ambition!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I agree with Welbeck moving, can't blame the lad at all. That was SAF's fault - his ego wanting a title before he retired hence the signing of RvP.

It's not "moralistic bullshít". You can't deny that over the years we have criticised other teams for doing the very thing we have now done. I loved it that we had 7 players in the England team 10 years ago and still a handful even a couple of seasons ago. Now we are just another chequebook club and, forgive me, but it feels uncomfortable.
Re: RvP - it is SAF's fault as he wanted to retire after winning a title, to the detriment of the long term development of Welbeck. SAF's ethos has always been on the long term and this was in polar opposite to that. See also spending most of the season playing Giggs in CM and not "risking" playing Cleverley. Selfish old fool had to go out with a bang.

Over simplistic thinking and I'd fancy our chances of finishing above them. They have 6 first team defenders and 2 CB's before having to play no name players! Also their strikers are awful compared to ours, so yes he will get games.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's simplistic because it's obvious and true, Arsenal are better than us. Also, I wouldn't be putting any money on United to finish above them, Wenger regularly gets Arsenal into the top four.
Arsenal to qualify for the CL is one of the safest bets in football, I wouldn't be so confident about United TBH. We've got big name players but they need to moulded into a coherent team, LvG himself said it could take a year.

Funny that you say that considering the tantrums you have had over the years "I want new shiny expensive players !"
And, yes it is SAF's fault for not buying midfielders but also, and you have backed up my argument quite nicely here, he didn't play Pogba. Right now we could have one of the world's best CM's that we paid peanuts for but let him go for peanuts instead.
So if this money/mud throwing exercise fails and the bad man comes to the door - what then?

It's hardly a pipe dream for the club to operate in the manner i've suggested, we've done it for years anyway just strayed of the path slightly.
Nouveau riche is a term, usually derogatory, to describe persons who acquire wealth within their generation, and spend it conspicuously. The implication is that, being of lower- or middle-class origin, these individuals lack the taste to properly use wealth. Hence, this class of people is sometimes ill-regarded by old money as culturally inferior, comparatively lacking in pedigree and subtlety.

Exactly, this is what I said above... the club HAS thrown away it's tradition. I grew up supporting Utd, who provided the majority of the England team and since we have always had 5-6 players in the squad. Who do we have now? Rooney - yes, Shaw - probably, Jones, Smalling, Carrick... not even certain to be in the squad let alone starting. That's it.
Now coming to quality it's only available in foreign markets

Not strictly true is it?
There have been some exceptional British players over the last decade.
