Let's be honest, this is the key reason why you are now happy with the signing:
"He came on yesterday and looked decent"
If you had bothered to watch him previously and not listen to the rubbish spouted by his clubs rival fans you'd have realised he has always has potential and some great attributes.
He just needs game time in his preferred position, I've no doubt he will prove a good signing for you.

Honestly i think people take football too seriously sometimes
OF COURSE we're going to rate Welbeck higher now than when he was at Utd. And if it winds Utd fans up then all the better.
Fack me we've got some catching up to do over the whole RvP thing (he's always been terrible by the way).
'Everybody thinks they have the prettiest wife at home'
Who the fúck calls him Wellshít, that is just cringeworthy. He is low risk because he is young and English, with the inflation in the market he could flop and we could still probably make a profit on him. But he will never be as good as Sturridge and the 'Fergie Factor' means shít, in fact half the reason United are a midtable club now is because of all the clowns he spent millions on who don't belong at a club of their stature.

I didn't want him, and I would still rather we hadn't bought him. It was a vanity purchase by SAF to ensure he retired on a title win. Would have much more satisfaction seeing Rooney and Welbeck continue to develop a partnership that started so well in 2011-12. Everyone loves a strike partnership and with RvP you don't get one. We have just lost a young, talented, local player for 2 years of RvP.
Honestly the only reason we Arsenal fans are happy about Welbeck is simpey cos hes better than what we have.
Utd were happy to sell cos they have better.
If we had a better strike force we wouldn't ever consider Welbeck.
But as the saying goes beggars cant be choosers
And also we are hoping that Welbeck improves, he's young, hard working, and has all the right attributes, so if Arsene works his magic like hes done on numerous other players, he could be turn out to be a great signing
And like the OP says if it doesnt work out, we'll still recoup some of the money if we decide to move him on.

Not really... we have him so I'm making use of the name - bit of creativity .
"Cheap £16m" - That's not cheap for Welbeck at all, and pointing to the inflated fees paid for Long and Lallana don't change that,
"Fergie Factor - Ferguson rated him highly" - Ferguson also risked sacrificing Welbeck's potential by using him in a destroyer/workhorse role to compensate for lack of legs elsewhere. Remains to be seen what impact this has had on Welbeck's ceiling.
"Proven Prem" - even if you believe in this being an important factor in a transfer, Welbeck's hardly a proven top performer at the top end of the league.
I agree that he offers mobility, which Arsenal need, and that he has a decent resale value. If it doesn't work out at Arsenal, someone will definitely take a punt on him. But I don't think it it can be considered low-risk when you take into account what is at stake for Arsenal this season.
Time will tell, but I don't think Welbeck at 16m was the answer.

I appreciate everyone entltled to an opinion, but Shane Long cost £12M, Lallana £25M and even though hes younger, Welbeck is more proven that both, so £16M is cheap
Shaw cost £30M, Chambers £16M the list is endless
Even Borini was about to get sold to Sunderland for £14M
