In separate news, Ferrari's Luca Di Montezemolo is to step down as chairman of the Formula 1 team.
His departure follows a poor season on the track and disagreements with Sergio Marchionne, chief executive officer of parent company Fiat.
"This is the end of an era after almost 23 marvellous and unforgettable years," said Di Montezemolo, 67. "It has been a great privilege."
Marchionne will replace Di Montezemolo, who leaves the role on 13 October.
Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg hopes Formula 1 fans "forgive" him after he was booed at the last two grands prix.
Rosberg was given a hostile reception on the podium after colliding with team-mate Lewis Hamilton at the Belgian GP and following Sunday's Italian race.
"It's obviously not nice, but what can I say?" said the 29-year-old German.
"I hope that with time they forgive and forget. That would be great. I have apologised. I can't really do anything more than that."
Hamilton said the booing made him feel "awkward", while Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff believes it is unfair.
"First of all, there shouldn't be any booing on the podium," said Wolff.
"That's for the top three guys who have had a mega-race and, whoever it is, there shouldn't be booing. We're a sport, sport should unite.
"I don't even want to think about being booed. Maybe it's something you need to survive if you want to make it to the top."
Personally I feel for Nico, it is not nice to be booed. Hamilton has been the victim on it and is the only F1 driver I am aware of that had a site dedicated to hating him.
These things either make you or break you. Hopefully he is not broken and comes back with a bang in Singapore
MUDD you seem to be having a world of a conversation with yourself here haha!
On another note, DC can make statements like that until the chequered flag in Brazil, it won't save Hamilton from his own mistakes. I do believe Hamilton will catch Rosberg but having fans liking him isn't going to make a difference, same way it didn't do in Australia, Hungary qualifying or Germany qufliying.
Im actually kind of glad that Luca DM has gone, I hope now that Ferrari will give off with the "Formula One needs us" attitude.
Rosberg being forgiven? That will have to wait until the end of the season, if he wins by less than 18 points (being that Rosberg only finished 2nd in Spa) then a lot of people will point the finger saying that his championship win is because he took Hamilton out in Spa. Hamilton is trying to play the cool game on it by stating that he feels awkward with the booing of Rosberg, I can't help but think that both drivers are responsible for this situation. Hamilton fired a gunshot by questioning Rosberg's nationality then going as far to say they aren't friends, that probably riled Rosberg.
Then on the grid Hamilton made out like they were pals. Clowns all of them
It's a nasty situation to be in, especially as they were working so well together earlier in the season, but on the other hand, everyone saw it coming.
I'll always say this, Hamilton is my favourite and I am a supporter. But he's made this much harder than it had to be. I do believe Rosberg when he said he didn't move out in Spa because he was putting a point across that he wont be put into place by Hamilton, but he just can't hack the wheel-to-wheel action, when a racer like Hamilton, Vettel or Alonso put their car in a particular position, they've done it for a reason and they're not moving from their line, a good percentage of the time, the other drivers move and yield to the "authority" of a racer who dares to just shove their car in the way.
Hamilton's been trying to get into Nico's head and essentially dominate him and it was working until Monaco when Nico showed a side of him a lot of people did not expect.
Since then he got into Hamilton's head and his consistency piled pressure on Lewis. JB made a comment about Lewis and mind games as well but if I were him, I would play it differently.
Smile, hug, joke with Nico, decimate him the race weekend. That is the most effective way to destroy opponents. When he put that banker lap in, he destroyed everyone, he would need to do the same in Singapore because I have a sneaky feeling Nico may do a 'Monaco.'
That BBC article is a complete pile of clap.
The article title has nothing whatsoever to do with the body of it's content.
Momentum? What momentum?
Does a win in a race mean that your engine will not explode into flames in the next race?
Hamilton is the better driver.
Rosberg can not race with him. In fact, I don't think he can race with anyone.
Rosberg's points advantage are entirely the result of Hamilton's mechanical failures not Rosbergs driving.
Ferrari – I hate them.
Ferrari refuse to accept any criticism from their own employees. That is why they will never be any good. They operate a “blame culture” attitude. A Ferrari can not be bad because it is a Ferrari. If a Ferrari is not dominating F1 then it is not the car's fault but some poor individual that they can blame and fire.
Schumacher changed all that and got rid of the Ferrari “yes men” taking 3 hour liquid lunches. Look at the success he brought them and then they reverted back to their “Ferrari” ways. Believing that their name and the extremely lucrative deal they had with Bernie would guarantee success without having to work for it.
Ferrari – I hate them.
coulthard going all round the houses to tell tell us what we knew already that hamilton had a couple of tenths over rosberg at monza ,
not quite sure about the momentum part as singapore is very different from monza and all the drivers will ensure that there respective heads are in def con five mode when they whizz around marina bay
lets also not forget that singapore may be a leveler for the likes of red bull so it is not nailed on that rosberg and hamilton will just waft off into the distance at marina bay and with a 22 point deficit hamilton has to go for a win and mixing it with a couple of red bulls is a curved ball he certainly does not need on the confined nature of singapore with only six races left --
a 22 point deficit is really not hat much, especially when you consider that the last race is double points. If Hamilton won the last race with Rosberg second that is 14 of those 22 points
"""Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg hopes Formula 1 fans "forgive" him after he was booed at the last two grands prix."""
Oh, it's, "Formula 1 fans" now, is it Nico? Changed yer tune then?
So perhaps an apology to the British fans you insulted in Belgium would be a step in the right direction. We get that sort of garbage from various idiots here, too.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5AxxmZPl-k
It was the dastardly british belgians and british italians that booed him POB.
Clearly Nico is innocent and could not hurt a fly.
Said it on a previous thread, I wonder what the reaction from some on this board would have been if it was the other way around.
It certainly would not have been called a racing incident by them
""Clearly Nico is innocent and could not hurt a fly.""
May not hurt a fly but I bet he would give it a puncture, just to make a point.
Stuff the fans who have waited a year for their Grand Prix and are hoping to see a close sporting event. They're all British.
Stupid thing to say and I can't believe it isn't a bit embarassing for Mercedes-Benz too.
Only the British moan and hate drivers who are not British.
You know we only like British drivers and consider the rest of those foreigners as useless.
I love the sound of the 2014 hybrid power units.
You can actually hear the sound of the spectators cheering when Nico Rosberg missed the chicane for the first and then the louder cheer when he missed it for the second time.
I'll be honest, I hadn't seen that 'British fans' comment before. I'm actually a bit disgusted at it.
Sure there are plenty of British Fans at Spa as it is relatively easy to get to.
However I wouldn't say the same about Monza. And if you look at the flags and caps etc. of most of the crowd at the podium celebration they were Ferrari.
It must have been the British Tiffosi. And as WTBC said, they were occupying the stands where Rosberg missed his braking point twice. Who else would cheer his misfortune other than British fans? The same British fans who booed Vettel maybe?
I wonder if there will be many British fans there will be in Singapore, Russia, Japan, USA, Brazil or Abu Dhabi. I guess we will find out soon.
Dont get why Rosberg gets so much hate same for Vettel and Schumacher. When Senna did alot worse then all of them and he never got bood and say a bad word about him on any forum you get banned lol.
Again with the accusations of hate. Not sure anyone on this forum hates those drivers. I'm a Schumacher and Rosberg fan. Have no issues with Nico, just do not like people making out he's some sweet darling who is so innocent and does nothing wrong.
With regards to Vettel, you will find a lot of people here, me included are not convinced he is all that. That's about it.
If you do not know why Seb was booed last year and Rosberg recently has been booed, I would suggest you review the 2013 season and review Nico's race in Spa and his ensuing comments.
Cheers
Booing a driver is pretty sad thing to do. Vettel booing was funny though though.
Be intrersting when Vettel next wins a race if he still get bood.
I think most people have forgiven him for what he did to Webber. He'll not be booed again.
Not sure when next he will win a race though. May be a very long time coming
He might still win a race this season, i think Red Bull will be a lot stronger next season.
