Banging on about number 6Diverpool won 4 of them as the old european cup when it was far less competitive and maybe only 4 or 5 teams could realistically win it, back then a lucky draw could see an easy run to the final.

In 2005 they were given a goal against Chelsea at Klanfield that was not over the line, they should have never been in the final.

Let's be honest Premier League > CL.

We don't care about the CL and don't bother trying. In the Prem we do which is why we're unbeaten. Scousers are trying their little hearts out in both and lost twice in the PL and needed the ref's help to beat the mighty Ludogrets

We can always rely on Liverpool to beat the carpenters and farmers from some dodgy Balkan team

At least they have a trade to fall back on when their football career is over.
What the fluck is poor Danny going to do ?

This. There should be a clear distinction between the old European cup and the champions league, as they are different competitions with the CL being much harder to win. Liverpool claim to have won 5 CL's, but basically they've won 4 European cups and one CL. A good achievement of course, but not quite the same as winning 5 CL's.

Roma are a decent side but I'd fully expect City to beat them at the Ethiad. Depends on Bayern beating Roma home and away and it'll be tight but I rate City.

I guess so, but don't forget City have that, not to be envied, trip to Moscow at some point.

Obviously.
In its current format, a team can finish 15 to 20 points off top spot in their domestic league, still qualify, draw 5 out of 6 games, have a positive goal difference of 1 or 2, and still reach the quarter finals.

I heard back in the days of the European cup, teams would mop up three in row, because runs included semi finals against some riff-raff outfit from god knows where. No wonder Real and Liverpool won so many of em!

Know what you're saying Lex but, and I have not checked this, how often do teams lose in Moscow. You always get a tough game but our lot nearly always win don't they?

No club has won the European Cup for 22 two years, so it must be quite hard to win.

Go tell that to Puskas and Di Stefano!

Been a few season since Arsenal have played a Russian side, but pretty sure we managed to f'ck up on a regular basis out there.

Not that that's saying much...

Liverpool won it in 2005 with help from the officials in a few games. I was watching the Arsenal game last night but all the talk form the people who watched the Liverpool game was that they won it with a very soft penalty, even the Liverpool supporters said that.

It was a clear penalty, don't have a clue what they're keeper was thinking.

What do spurs have to do with winning either?

Spurs most recent European cup claim to fame is losing a two legged tie versus inter milan

It was only a soft penalty because the Bulgarians conspired to hand it to Liverpool.

Looked like a pen to me.
