He was born in Germany, his parents are Turkish.

Özil is a third-generation Turkish-German, who, in reference to his game, concludes, "My technique and feeling for the ball is the Turkish side to my game. The discipline, attitude and always-give-your-all is the German part."

Although of Turkish descent, his entire life he has been committed to Germany. His ancestors are from Devrek, Zonguldak in North-Western Turkey.

He is Turkish though because of his parents. My parents are from Iraq and I was born here, doesn't make me english.

Point is, Neville is too lazy/thick (take your pick) to learn player's names properly.

It's not hard, and if you take the job of providing "analysis" it's just about the least you can do to learn player's names properly.

This applies to ex-Arsenal players too, by the way. Keown still calls Cazorla, Carzola

It's not Cazorla, it's Cathu-thu-thu

his parents are kurdish anyway but it all has no relevance. his name is Mesut and shouldn't be substituted with any other Muslim name.
