Worse defence..AFC vs LFC vs Man U?

We haven't got a poor defence at all. Just a lack of back up.

posted on 22/9/14

ok, at the moment, it feels like any corner/cross or freekick is a good opportunity for the opposition to score, for whatever reason, our defending has been poor this season.

We have a very good defence - especially when you realise they get no help from the midfield.

As DJ said we don't have any back up if (when) we pick up 2/3 injuries

United's defence is by a long, long way the worst.

That is more to do with having only the two CBs who are good in the air. It isn't the defence that is the problem, as Willbeck says, it is the straw weight midfield.

We have conceeded less goals than Chelsea, United and Liverpool

posted on 22/9/14

ok guys, I understand and agree with your points about us but for the article though, who do you think will concede the most goals this season, AFC, LFC or Man U?

posted on 22/9/14

But we'll always score a sweeter own goal than all of you.

Liverpool will concede 55
United will concede 50
Arsenal will concede 40

Liverpool's is worse I think.

Utd are sharp in attack but horrendous in defence. Since losing Suarez Liverpool have to pour more men forward to help in attack and as a result they are more vulnerable at the back. The strength of a defence does not just depend on the backline line-up, but on how the entire team is balanced and synchronised to attack and defend. One problem for Arsenal is we seem to have an in-built fear of certain teams (esp City, Utd, Chelsea) and once they score we press the panic button, and it all goes pear-shaped from there.

United defence is shockingly bad at the moment, i know they have one or two injuries but i can't see them improving drastically anytime soon.

With all their firepower i would be surprised if they finish with anymore than a +15 gd due to a shambolic defence.

united have comfortably the worst defence, Im not sure if this is even a serious question.

1) United have faced the weaker teams and yet concede 5 against a promoted team. They have injuries but they concede almost at each time they are under attack.

2) Arsenal & Liverpool have both faced City who are possibly the best offensive team in the league.Forget the cráp of the last few weeks about how good chelsea's attack is, they arent a patch on City in full flight. They were hanging on yesterday as City practically ráped them but lacked the killer instinct to put them away.

No control at all from chelsea who are supposedly miles better than any team in the league. If Negredo or Jovetic play instead of Dzeko City would have won that match comfortably.Dzeko cost City points at the Emirates aswell.

3) Liverpool & Arsenal are only really bad at setpieces, well united are bad at everything at the moment.

We have defended poorly but I think we will rely on our attack this season to get results. We dont have the worst defence out there but I dont rate it that much either way.

was really impressed with mangala, almost looked better than Kompany who was also outstanding.

utds defence arguably have less protection then arsenals.
Arsenal have a poor back four other than mertesacker.
Liverpools back 4 are new and inexperienced and utd are just a shambles defenseively as a team.
Mind you chelsea have not been great defensively this year either. Its a strange year,

Yesterday was the worst I have seen chelsea play tbh for a good while, I wouldnt take much from our performance. City were poor yesterday but controlled the game, we were worse. We still done the best move of the game.

Nickalopodis

Arsenal have a strong back 4 mate and that's it

Sagna--Mertesacker--Koscielny--Gibbs

They went near 800 minutes without conceding last year lad. If you think Mertesacker is our only good deferender you are massively underrating Gibbs and Koscielny especially.

posted on 22/9/14

Gibbs is a very good player, especially for his age but sadly is injury prone.
Sagna doesnt play for you lot anymore
and Kos is the new carragher imo but with a bit more pace. Not a massive fan, but that has been done to death and I understand arsenal fans rate him highly.
Mertesacker reads the game well, is a very good marshall of an otherwise(epsecially in big games) shaky defence.

Is this really serious or have i missed something.

Arsenal:
Mathieu Debuchy
Kieran Gibbs
Per Mertesacker
Laurent Koscielny
Nacho Monreal
Calum Chambers

Liverpool:
Moreno
Lovren
Sakho
Manquillo
Skrtel
Johnson
José Enrique
Flanagan
Touré

Man U:
Jones
Evans
Blackett
Rafael
Rojo
Smalling
James
Shaw
Varela

Arsenal have the best in terms of a quality back 4 when all fit. United just edge Liverpool for quality but that's definitely up for debate.

With a realistic (this will happen as players can't be rested) number of injuries Arsenal literally would not have any options and would be forced to play mids or kids and would in fact be worse than both Liverpool & United.

Conclusion - Arsenal are the best and worst at the same time. Liverpool and United are just shiite

I was talking about last seasons Komakino because we're only 5 Premier League games in this season, and our back 4 hasn't changed a great deal since last year.

I was highlighting that our normal back 4 is strong, and while Sagna has been replaced by Debuchy this year, a lot of fans view this as a like for like replacement (and rightly so.

Sagna out for Debuchy is a fairly straight swap, and Arsenal have kept 26 clean sheets since the start of last season. A record only equalled by Chelsea (also 26).

posted on 22/9/14

Fair enough.

Why just not list Debuchy though.

posted on 22/9/14

As I said lad, I was listing a record from last year due to the fact it's only mid September through season.

I should have included the Debuchy for Sagna likeness in my first post but here here

They went 5 minutes without conceding at Stamford Bridge!

posted on 22/9/14

Yeah that's a different story Mr Moureen

We had no midfield protection away from home last year. That's why Arsene has changed to 4-1-4-1 this year to shore up the midfield away from home in big games.

Was demonstrated well in Community Shield if you personally could that match.
