They probably got the information from the YouGov polls rather than the referendum ballots which as you say are completely anonymous.
But there were no closing polls.
Spooky
According to a fuller YouGov breakdown the youngest group voted no and only the 25-39 group voted yes.

25-39 voted yes
cos they've been on the collie dugs and bucky aw their life...brains are scrambled
25-39 is quite a huge age gap in all honesty.
And then made up how 3.5 million people voted from 3,000
I thought ballot papers were completely anonymous?
...............
If that's the case then why a barcode on the voting slip?
Those polls are as useless as the ones working in the local fish factory

They still use serial numbers.
The barcode can be used for loads of info - if it was just an official mark they could just easily stamp the gov't "crown" mark like you see everywhere on gov't documents & property. When issued with a ballot paper they don't just cross your name off the electoral register to show you've voted and can't vote again but they read out the 4 digit number from the back of your ballot paper and log it on another form so they have your name, address and ballot paper number all noted down. How anonymous does that sound ?
Loads of voters saying on social media the reverse of their ballot papers were blank so make of that what you will ?
Did you guys have a 4 digit number logged when issued with your vioting slip ? ...or have they just got me under strict surveillance ?
Mimes was blank on the other side
