I have to say I thought Mason had a really good game and got forward well.

Still very early but he could be just the type of player we need to help link the midfield and attack as in many games I have watched our attacking players sometime seem isolated.

Mason was getting beyond the strikers from a deep position, something which paulinho and dembele should be doing but havnt been able to.

He also lasted the whole game which surprised me so hopefully he is only going to get better.

I thought naughton and rose were very solid and kane I dont think can be any worse than adebayor at the moment.

Some of you aren't very good readers. quick to try and point out flaws than understand.

Yes the title says academy players but if you read the OP it says English and Academy. Apologies if the Title was misleading but I corrected this in the text. But to make it clear I'll change the title.

Mason made the most forward passes in our central midfield. 18 in total

So who is a better prospect now Bentaleb or Mason?

It is difficult as this a massive kneejerk answer as it is just one game but Mason looks better suited for how we want to play although I do still like Bentaleb.

As I said on another thread bentaleb is the better prospect as Mason got 4 years on him and only played a game and a bit.

Bentaleb had half a season and a decent WC under his belt already!

I actually think Bentaleb and Mason may get Pochettinon think about a 4-3-3 formation

Capoue, Stambouli, Bentaleb, Mason, Dembele. Seem more suited to a 3 man midfield. They all have a combination of everything a midfield needs between them.

Especially when Eriksen does not play or is off form.

Chadli and Lamela can flank Ade, Soldado or Kane.

I have to admit to being fairly nonplussed with Stamboulli's first handful of games. Looks short of quality.

He will never stand out because the job he does is ultimately an unglamorous one. Same for players like Gattuso.

No one rated him till he went to AC Milan and people realised he was integral to their success. Stambouli is better on the ball than Gattuso despite his failings and I think he is more mobile.

Disagree about Stambouli. Thought he looked solid and composed. Especially considering he's coming from a less 'intense' league.

Would be nice to see, it was only a few years ago that we could have named a semi-decent all English/British team but have slowly lost that.

This is where I hope that Poch's style comes into it's own as it's obvious those players aren't of the highest quality, but have to be coached into performing a role for the team.

Rose/Davies
Naughton/Walker

Ensures at least 2 British starters.
Lennon, Dier, Townsend, Mason and Kane ensure an extra 5 British players in the match day squad.

That's 7-9 british players on show at most of our games. Not bad going. At the beginning of the season it didn't seem like that.
