What comes to play in the Ryder cup is:
individualism vs collectivism.
Sometimes I think they can over-analyse the pairings and the role of the captain. The bottom line is that whoever your pairing is, if they don't play well, they won't win. And not enough of the Americans played well - perhaps it says something that their best 3 players were the 3 rookies, and perhaps the 3 rookies bought into the whole Ryder Cup team ethic more than the established American stars.
Mickelson had nothing to say for the previous 2 teams that lost also since Azinger, so it just sounds like sour grapes that he didn't play Saturday. And perhaps there's a worry that this could be his last Ryder Cup also..............
was amusing to watch tbh
he practically threw tom watson under the bus and let it roll back over him again
watson didn't deserve that
"I expected exactly what Phil said to me,'' Watson said after the U.S. dropped 3 ½ of 4 points in the afternoon foursomes, or alternate shot, competition. "He said, 'We can get it done, captain. We want the chance.' I said, 'Well, the way this golf course sets up, the four teams I put out there gives us the best chance.'
"He lobbied again. He texted me, he said, 'Give us a chance.' I had to tell him no. I felt that we had the four best teams possible in the afternoon for alternate shot.''

Could it be Watson's old-fashioned stubbornness that angered Phil?
Tagge
Apparently there has been a bit of bad blood between Phil and Tom. It stems from some comments that Watson made about Phils performances in US Opens.
